Highlights

Mid-senior engineering opportunity working across connected-device software, distributed services, APIs, embedded middleware, and protocol integration while helping modernize a heterogeneous hardware platform.

Description

Golang Software Engineer-– Connected Systems / IoT Platform Apex, NC · Hybrid About the Role SourceFuse is hiring a mid-senior level Golang Software Engineer for a contract engagement with one of our clients, a connected-hardware manufacturer building a next-generation automation platform for pumps, heaters, lights, valves, and salt chlorine generators. As a SourceFuse consultant embedded with the client's platform engineering team, you'll work across several core codebases — a device orchestration middleware, shared gRPC/protobuf API contracts, an embedded middleware application running on controller hardware, and a protocol-bridging service connecting legacy clients to a newer gRPC API — helping evolve a heterogeneous hardware control platform into a clean, well-tested, well-documented service architecture. What You'll Do Design, build, and maintain Go services and libraries for device orchestration, binary encoding/decoding, and hardware transport abstraction (IP and serial-based communication)Contribute to an embedded middleware application running on the platform controllerExtend and version shared gRPC API contracts using Protocol Buffers and modern schema-management tooling (Buf/protoc)Work on a protocol-bridging service connecting a legacy JSON-based client protocol to a newer gRPC APIFollow Google AIP-aligned API design conventionsWrite automated unit, integration, and conformance tests; use GitHub Workflows for CI/CDParticipate in code and design reviews with the client's platform teamDebug issues across the communication stack, from serial transport through the gRPC API layerDocument architecture decisions, API changes, and operational runbooksWhat We're Looking For 3+ years of professional Go experience in production systems; comfortable in large, multi-package codebasesPractical experience with gRPC and Protocol Buffers, including schema design, versioning, and code generationFamiliarity with API design guidelines such as Google's AIP standardsExperience with device communication protocols and transport abstractions (serial/RS485, TCP/IP, or similar)Comfortable in Linux/embedded Linux environments and Docker-based build systemsSolid testing discipline — unit, integration, and conformance-style test suitesProficient with Git-based workflows and CI/CD pipelines, including multi-repo coordinationUnderstanding of concurrent and networked systems design in Go (goroutines, channels, context cancellation)Strong written communication for PR descriptions, design docs, and code commentsNice to Have Experience with WebSocket protocols or legacy-to-modern protocol bridgingBackground in IoT device management, home automation, or connected hardware productsExposure to 802.15.4, Bluetooth, or other embedded RF/serial standardsExperience with workflow orchestration or event-driven architecturesFamiliarity with firmware/bootloader concepts and OTA update strategiesPrior experience in pool, HVAC, or residential equipment automation (a plus, not required)About SourceFuse SourceFuse is an AWS Advanced Consulting Partner and IT services firm helping enterprises modernize and scale through cloud-native technologies.
