Their platform sits at the intersection of software, cloud infrastructure, commerce integrations, mobile/web applications, and physical hardware. The technology ecosystem includes RFID readers, scanners, antennas, printers, APIs, and integrations with external commerce and operational platforms. OUR CLIENT is now establishing a permanent development presence in Baguio City, Philippines, creating a local engineering team that will work closely with product and engineering leadership across the Philippines and United States. The initial team will be small, with strong potential for growth as the development operation matures. About the Role We are looking for a hands-on Senior Software Engineer / Technical Lead who can become the technical foundation of the new Baguio engineering team. This is not a management-only position. You will continue to write production code, solve complex technical problems, make architecture decisions, review code, and help other engineers grow. As the team develops, you will have the opportunity to become the day-to-day technical leader for the Baguio engineering operation. You will work closely with the Director of Innovation and help translate product and business requirements into reliable, production-ready software. The ideal person is technically strong but also highly adaptable. OUR CLIENT works across software and hardware, so the ability to learn unfamiliar technologies, APIs, systems, and business domains is particularly important. What You'll Do Design, build, test, deploy, and support software across cloud platforms, integrations, edge applications, and hardware-connected systems.Translate product requirements and business problems into practical technical plans and development milestones.Make architecture decisions balancing delivery speed, reliability, security, scalability, and maintainability.Lead technical discussions and provide day-to-day engineering guidance to the Baguio development team.Conduct code reviews and mentor engineers toward becoming independent contributors.Establish and improve engineering practices around testing, documentation, deployment, monitoring, and incident follow-up.Build and maintain integrations with Shopify and other commerce, inventory, and operational platforms.Troubleshoot issues across APIs, backend services, databases, local networks, device software, RFID readers, scanners, and printers.Work closely with product, support, operations, and US-based leadership to understand real-world customer requirements.Use AI coding agents such as Claude Code, Codex, and similar tools to accelerate development, testing, investigation, refactoring, and documentation.Review, test, and validate AI-generated code before it reaches production.Communicate progress, technical decisions, risks, and blockers clearly.Evaluate new technologies, vendor SDKs, and development approaches through research and prototyping.Help establish and grow the engineering culture and technical standards of the new Baguio team.Must-Have Qualifications 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, or equivalent evidence of senior-level technical ability.Strong production experience with at least one of: Go, Python, or C++.Strong ability to learn unfamiliar programming languages, frameworks, APIs, and technical domains quickly.Hands-on experience designing and operating APIs, backend services, integrations, or distributed systems.Strong SQL and relational database skills, preferably PostgreSQL.Production experience with AWS or another major cloud platform.Experience with Docker, Linux, Git, and CI/CD workflows.Strong debugging and problem-solving skills across multiple layers of a technical system.Experience with code reviews, technical mentoring, and technical decision-making.Ability to provide technical leadership without becoming a bottleneck for the team.Strong professional English for technical discussions, meetings, documentation, and written communication.Professional experience using AI coding agents as part of your engineering workflow.Comfortable working full-time on-site in Baguio City.Comfortable occasionally coordinating with colleagues working in US time zones.Nice-to-Have Experience Experience in any of the following will be highly valuable: RFIDIoTEdge computingEmbedded systemsHardware/software integrationNetworkingUSB or serial communicationPrinter integrationRetail technologyInventory managementE-commerceWarehouse systemsShopify integrationsTypeScript / JavaScriptReactMobile developmentDesktop applicationsEvent-driven systemsBackground processingOffline synchronizationHigh-volume data processingBuilding or growing a new engineering teamWhat We're Looking For The strongest candidate isn't necessarily the person who has worked with the largest number of technologies. You should be comfortable moving from architecture and backend development to debugging an integration, investigating a hardware-related issue, reviewing another engineer's code, or learning a new SDK when the problem requires it. You should also be comfortable working in an environment where the engineering team is being built from the ground up.
