Highlights

Take end-to-end ownership of a core business platform as the first in-house developer, working directly with technology leadership. The role offers substantial autonomy, hands-on architectural responsibility, modernization of legacy systems, and support from an experienced external engineering team.

Description

Most developer jobs hand you a ticket queue. This one hands you the platform. An established business, 30+ years old and regulated, is investing in doing tech properly. Development has always sat with external partners. Now they're bringing it in-house and they want you to head it up. You'd be the first in-house developer, working directly alongside the Head of Tech. The two of you take it on as a team and bring everything in-house between you: he sets the direction and priorities, you make the technical calls and build it. An external senior engineering team hands the platform over and stays on for code reviews and support, so there's a safety net, but day to day this is your build. Everything is moving into Azure, the legacy database design is being fixed, and the whole business is coming off spreadsheets and onto one system. What you'll actually do: Own the core platform end to end: design, build, support, evolveRe-architect and refactor the legacy parts while keeping the business runningMigrate custom hosted systems into AzureFix database design properly, including relationships that were never modelled correctlyWork with the external engineering team on reviews and handoverTake a business objective from the change manager and decide how it gets built You'll be a fit if: C# and .NET is your primary stackYou're genuinely strong on SQL and database designYou've built and deployed in Azure yourself (Functions, deployments, alerts)You've owned a live business application, not just contributed to oneYou've learned good practice in a disciplined team: source control, reviews, testing, environmentsYou can design a solution and build it without hand-holding You'll be paid £60k. For the first couple of months, it will be 2 days per week in Chorley, but can get even more flexible as time goes on.
