Why Box Needs You As a Software Engineer on the Automate team, you will be at the heart of Box's workflow automation platform - a product that empowers millions of users to automate complex business processes without writing code. The Automate team is a growing organization of ~30 engineers across four specialized teams, responsible for building the intelligent automation engine, intuitive user interface, and seamless integrations that enable organizations to transform how they work. In this role, you will design and develop full-stack solutions that span from backend automation logic to responsive frontend experiences. You'll work with Java and React/TypeScript to build scalable, performant systems that handle millions of workflow executions daily. You'll collaborate with product managers, designers, and fellow engineers to innovate on automation capabilities, improve user experience, and integrate with enterprise applications. Your work will directly impact how customers streamline their most critical business processes - from contract lifecycle management to invoice processing to employee onboarding. What You'll Do Design and implement full-stack features for the Box Automate platform, writing clean, maintainable code in Java (backend) and React/TypeScript (frontend)Develop and optimize backend services that power workflow automation, ensuring high performance, reliability, and scalability across distributed systemsBuild responsive, intuitive user interfaces in React that enable users to create, configure, and monitor automated workflowsCollaborate with cross-functional teams including product, design, and infrastructure to define requirements, propose technical solutions, and deliver features on scheduleParticipate in code reviews, mentor junior engineers, and contribute to engineering best practices and architectural decisionsParticipate in our on-call rotation, available at all times while on-call to help respond to and triage any issues that ariseAttend and engage in weekly stand-ups, team meetings, and manager 1:1s to ensure alignment and continuous improvement Who You Are We are an AI-first company.
