API Gateway Engineer

We are seeking an experienced API Gateway Engineer to support the development, onboarding, maintenance and operational management of enterprise API Gateway platforms. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with Apigee, Red Hat Linux and Ansible, along with experience working in enterprise environments. Key Responsibilities Support the onboarding and implementation of API Gateway services using Apigee.Participate in design workshops, project meetings and technical discussions for API Gateway onboarding initiatives.Gather platform and infrastructure requirements and provide cost estimates using established cost templates.Implement API onboarding activities including API key, developer, developer application creation and key/application rotation.Create and maintain communications matrices, onboarding checklists and status tracking.Update technical and design documentation, including design documents, Excel-based design artefacts and Wiki/Confluence pages.Maintain JIRA tickets with implementation status, technical details and required updates.Identify and implement improvements to API Gateway onboarding processes, documentation and operational procedures.Develop, maintain and improve Ansible scripts and automation.Use Ansible via CLI and Ansible Automation Platform (AAP) for automation and platform management.Perform administration and troubleshooting of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7/8 environments.Implement and maintain static routes on Red Hat Linux virtual machines.Support general API Gateway platform maintenance, troubleshooting and other ad-hoc technical activities.Manage changes through the organisation’s Permit to Work (PTW) and change management processes.Create and maintain Change Requests and Method of Procedure (MOP) documentation.Coordinate changes through the required review and approval processes.Participate in scheduled production implementation and maintenance activities, including occasional change windows from 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM AEST.Perform post-change validation and assist with troubleshooting where required. Essential Skills & Experience Strong hands-on experience with Apigee and enterprise API Gateway platforms.Experience implementing and onboarding APIs in an enterprise environment.Experience with API keys, developers, developer applications and key/application rotation.Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7/8.Strong hands-on experience with Ansible, including Ansible CLI and playbook development.Experience with Ansible Automation Platform (AAP).Experience with Linux networking, including static route configuration.Experience working within enterprise IT infrastructure or platform environments.Experience using JIRA and technical documentation platforms such as Confluence or Wiki.Experience working with enterprise change management processes, including Change Requests, MOPs and production implementation procedures.Strong troubleshooting, analytical and problem-solving skills.Strong written and verbal communication skills. Desirable Skills Experience supporting API platforms in large enterprise or telecommunications environments.Knowledge of API security, authentication and authorisation mechanisms.Knowledge of REST APIs, HTTP/HTTPS and TLS/SSL.Knowledge of DNS, networking and load-balancing concepts.Experience automating API Gateway or infrastructure operations using Ansible.Experience participating in production change windows and out-of-hours activities.
