Senior DevOps Engineer Location: Hartree Partners, Toronto Position Type: Full-time Schedule: Hybrid (4 days pw in office) Reporting to: DevOps Manager Hartree Partners is a global commodities firm operating across energy, commodities and associated markets. Find out more about us by visiting our website at: http://www.hartreepartners.com/ We are looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer to help design, build and operate reliable, scalable cloud infrastructure and deployment platforms. The role will work closely with software engineering and trading technology teams, with a strong focus on AWS, Kubernetes, Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD, data platforms and production reliability. You will be expected to operate with a high degree of autonomy, contribute to technical direction and help drive modern engineering practices across the team. Duties & Responsibilities Design, build and maintain multi-account AWS environments, including networking, VPC architecture, IAM, security and cost optimisation.Deliver Infrastructure as Code using Terraform and CloudFormation to improve automation, governance, repeatability and reliability.Develop and maintain CI/CD and GitOps pipelines using GitHub, ArgoCD and KEDA, improving deployment automation and developer experience.Manage container platforms using Docker, ECS and Kubernetes/EKS, ensuring high availability, scalability and operational resilience.Build and support distributed data processing, workflow orchestration and event-driven solutions using Apache Airflow and Apache Kafka.Implement and improve observability, monitoring and logging solutions using CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana and ELK/LGTM.Collaborate with development and trading technology teams to improve deployment workflows, real-time data streaming architectures, platform reliability and system performance.Automate infrastructure and operational processes using Python, Bash, PowerShell and other appropriate tooling.Promote modern DevOps, SRE and GitOps practices, helping establish engineering standards and a culture of automation and continuous improvement.Support production environments as required, providing technical expertise during critical incidents, troubleshooting complex issues and contributing to root-cause analysis and preventative improvements.Use modern AI-assisted engineering tools, including OpenAI Codex and Claude, to accelerate infrastructure development, automation, troubleshooting and documentation.Work effectively in an agentic engineering fashion, using AI agents where appropriate while establishing appropriate guardrails around permissions, testing, code review and deployment to minimise the risk of production outages or unintended changes.Take ownership of technical initiatives from design through delivery, considering maintainability, operational risk and the long-term success of the platform rather than only immediate requirements. Requirements 5+ years of experience in DevOps, SRE, Platform Engineering or Cloud Infrastructure roles.Proven expertise with AWS, including multi-account environments, networking, VPC design, IAM, security and cost optimisation.Strong hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code, particularly Terraform and/or CloudFormation.Strong knowledge of CI/CD and GitOps practices and automation tooling such as GitHub, ArgoCD and KEDA.Solid experience with containerisation and orchestration using Docker and Kubernetes/EKS. Experience with ECS is beneficial.Experience with Apache Airflow for workflow orchestration and Apache Kafka for event streaming and real-time data pipelines.Proficiency in scripting and automation using languages such as Python, Bash and PowerShell.Experience with monitoring, observability and logging platforms including CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana and LGTM/ELK, or comparable tooling.Experience applying appropriate security, testing and deployment controls when using AI coding tools and autonomous/agentic workflows, particularly when working with production infrastructure.Demonstrated ability to work autonomously, apply critical thinking, take ownership of complex technical problems and plan for long-term project success.Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to balance delivery speed, reliability, security and operational risk.Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with experience working closely with engineering teams in high-performance environments.Experience in trading, commodities, financial services or another high-performance, data-driven environment is preferred.
