Backend Developer (Java)

Full Time / Remote ReciMe is a recipe app revolutionizing how cooks organize, plan and shop their recipes. We’re trusted as the digital cookbook by over 1 million home cooks every week. Our smart importing tool enables users to aggregate all their recipes in one platform within seconds - whether those recipes came from an Instagram video, recipe blog or grandma’s recipe box. We’ve been a Top 10 app in the US App Store’s Food category for months and were recently featured on The Drew Barrymore Show. Now, we’re looking for a Backend Developer with Java experience to join our small team! 🚀 What You’ll Do Collaborate directly with our CTO (Nic) and co-founder (Christine) as the lead for ReciMe’s backend, driving new innovative features and improvements in scalability, latency, and data architecture.Own and deliver key projects like:Building ReciMe’s social and community featuresDeveloping features to support retention e.g. streaks, rewards, badgesDebugging edge cases, enhancing parsing accuracy, and optimizing performance to support thousands of diverse recipes. 💪 What You Bring A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.3+ years of backend development experience using Java and the Spring framework (or equivalent).Experience using AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude) to solve engineering problems and accelerate development workflows.Strong familiarity with LLMs or NLP frameworks to implement AI-driven features.Experience with cloud infrastructure and services, ideally on AWS.Comfortable with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing tools (e.g. Bitbucket Pipelines, Terraform).Detail-oriented problem-solver with excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.Proficiency with relational databases (PostgreSQL preferred) and ORM tools like Hibernate.Confidence working with RESTful APIs and third-party integrations (e.g., Firebase).Ability to create and maintain API documentation (e.g., Postman, Notion).Strong Git skills and familiarity with agile development practices (e.g., Jira).Bonus: Startup experience or a desire to wear many hats and own your work. 🤝 Details Full-time roleFully remote, working with a team across the US, Australia, Philippines and BrazilOpportunities to travel for team offsitesCompetitive salary (US$2.7-$3k depending on experience) 🍒 Perks Be part of one of the fastest growing consumer subscription appsWork directly with the founders and a small, hungry team solving a real-world problemA product with real retention, real revenue, and real impactOpportunities to travel for team offsites - this year, our whole team travelled to Hanoi!
