Backend Developer

Razor is seeking an experienced Backend Developer to design, develop, implement, and support Java-based enterprise applications within a large federal technology environment. This position will develop J2EE applications using Java, Spring, Spring Boot, REST/JSON APIs, relational databases, and AWS while working within an Agile software development environment. The Backend Developer will support the full application lifecycle, including solution design, development, testing, debugging, technical documentation, deployment support, and production issue resolution. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on Java development experience and be comfortable working across modern and legacy enterprise application technologies. Location & Work Arrangement Preferred candidate location is the National Capital Region (Client), including Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia Candidates located outside of the Client must be willing to relocate to the National Capital Region if required Suitability Requirements Candidate must successfully complete NSF Suitability requirements before a start date can be established Key Responsibilities Design, develop, implement, and maintain web-based Java and J2EE applications Develop backend solutions using Java, Spring, Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Security, JPA, and related technologies Design, build, and consume RESTful APIs and microservices Develop and maintain web services using REST, SOAP, XML, and JSON Create technical design documentation and application specifications Perform application coding in accordance with established development standards Design and execute unit and functional testing and participate in code reviews Support relational database development, including stored procedures, DML, and DDL activities Utilize Git-based version control and repositories such as GitHub and Bitbucket Build and manage applications using Maven and modern development environments such as IntelliJ or VS Code Develop and support applications utilizing AWS services Troubleshoot application issues through debugging, research, investigation, and root-cause analysis Participate in production support activities and resolve production application issues Support CI/CD and automated software delivery processes Utilize AI-assisted coding tools to support software development and problem-solving Collaborate with developers, technical teams, and client stakeholders within an Agile development environment Identify opportunities to improve applications, development practices, and technical processes Required Qualifications Strong professional experience developing applications using Java and J2EE Strong experience with Java technologies including Streams API, JSP, Servlets, JDBC, Spring, Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Security, and JPA Experience developing web services using REST, SOAP, XML, and JSON Experience designing, building, and consuming RESTful APIs and microservices Experience with relational databases, database queries, stored procedures, DML, and DDL Strong experience using Git and repository platforms such as GitHub or Bitbucket Strong experience with Maven Experience using modern IDEs such as IntelliJ or VS Code Experience designing and performing unit testing, functional testing, and code reviews Experience supporting and resolving issues within production application environments Experience developing or supporting applications using AWS services Experience creating technical specifications and design documentation Experience using AI-assisted coding tools Strong debugging, analytical, and problem-solving skills Excellent written and verbal communication and teamwork skills Preferred Qualifications Experience with modern frontend frameworks such as React, Ember, Angular, EXT, or Bootstrap Experience with frontend technologies including HTML, JSP, JavaScript, jQuery, and CSS Experience working within Agile development environments Experience with JIRA and Confluence Experience with CI/CD pipelines and tools such as Jenkins and GitHub Actions Experience with Python Experience with Docker and Kubernetes Experience with application performance and profiling tools Advanced debugging experience using modern development environments Employer Information Razor is an Equal Opportunity Employer and considers all qualified applicants without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, or any other protected characteristic.
