Description
Senior Full Stack Engineer – Front End / Data Visualisation
Location: Central London
Working Pattern: Hybrid
Salary: Up to £85,000 + 20% Bonus
The Opportunity
We’re working with a major global financial services organisation that is undergoing an exciting transformation in the way it builds and delivers data-driven applications.
As part of a wider investment in engineering and data capabilities, they are moving beyond traditional BI tooling and building modern, bespoke web applications that bring data, analytics and business processes together in one place.
This is a newly created senior engineering position where you’ll play a key role in shaping that transition.
You’ll join a team with strong data visualisation and BI expertise, but where modern application engineering capability is still being established.
You’ll therefore have genuine influence over how applications are designed, built and governed, rather than simply picking up an existing backlog.
What You'll Be Doing
Lead the development of modern, data-driven web applications from concept through to production.Help shape the transition from traditional BI dashboards towards bespoke web applications.Design intuitive, high-quality user experiences for complex data and analytics.Work closely with senior business stakeholders to understand how they want data presented and consumed.Establish engineering standards, development practices and architectural patterns for application development.Help define how the team approaches application architecture, infrastructure, governance and compliance.Work closely with data engineers, data scientists, architects and wider technology teams.Develop reusable application components and frameworks that can be adopted across the organisation.Mentor and upskill existing BI and data professionals, helping them transition towards modern application development.Contribute to a longer-term, multi-year transformation of the organisation's data and application estate.
What We're Looking For
Strong commercial experience developing modern web applications.Strong front-end engineering skills using technologies such as React, Vue or Angular.Strong JavaScript / TypeScript experience.Experience building applications that work with APIs and data services.A strong understanding of UI/UX and data visualisation.Experience designing applications that present complex datasets clearly and intuitively.Experience working with technologies such as Python and/or other modern backend technologies.Experience working with Databricks or another modern data platform would be highly beneficial.Previous experience with Power BI, Tableau, Plotly, Streamlit, Dash or similar data/visualisation platforms would be advantageous. An understanding of application architecture, engineering standards, governance and security. The confidence to operate as a senior technical SME and mentor others.
The Ideal Background
This role would particularly suit someone who has worked within a large enterprise or highly regulated environment, where application development involves navigating governance, security, compliance and multiple technology teams.
You don't need to have followed this exact technology stack previously.
What's most important is that you're an experienced application engineer who can bring strong engineering principles and help shape a new way of working.
This is not a step-up role.
You'll be expected to operate as a senior technical contributor from day one, providing guidance to the existing team and helping establish best practice.
Why Join?
This is an opportunity to join at a genuinely formative point in a major technology transformation.
You'll have the opportunity to:
Shape a greenfield application development capability.Influence architecture and engineering standards.Work with modern data and application technologies.Build applications that will become embedded into critical business processes.Have significant visibility with senior stakeholders.Mentor and influence an existing team without the responsibilities of line management.Play a key role in a multi-year transformation programme.
If you're an experienced application engineer who enjoys solving complex problems, cares about how data is presented and wants genuine influence over engineering direction, this could be an excellent opportunity.
