Site Reliability / Infrastructure Engineer - Defence & Government London | Hybrid | £90,000-£105,000 + Equity | Active SC Clearance Required The Opportunity We're working with a rapidly growing technology organisation delivering complex software and infrastructure solutions across UK Defence and Government. They're expanding their London engineering team and looking for an Infrastructure Engineer with a strong software engineering foundation who enjoys building systems, solving complex production problems and improving infrastructure through code and automation. This would particularly suit someone from an SRE, Software Engineering or Infrastructure Engineering background who wants to work on technically challenging, high-impact projects. The Role You'll work across software and infrastructure, taking responsibility for building, operating and improving large-scale production environments. You'll be involved in: Building and engineering scalable, highly available infrastructureWorking extensively with Kubernetes and AWSDeveloping code and automation to improve infrastructure and remove manual processesInfluencing infrastructure architecture and systems designOperating and improving distributed production systemsMonitoring, alerting, configuration management and platform upgradesDebugging complex production issues and engineering long-term solutionsDeploying new systems and managing infrastructure migrationsWorking alongside software engineers and forward-deployed technical teamsBalancing project-based engineering with operational responsibility, including an on-call rotation of approximately 1 week in 5The Person We're particularly interested in engineers who combine software engineering skills with strong infrastructure knowledge, rather than purely operational DevOps experience. Ideally, you'll have: Active UK SC clearance - this is a key requirementAround 1-3+ years' experience within SRE, Infrastructure, Platform or Software EngineeringA Computer Science degree or similarly strong technical/software engineering backgroundHands-on Kubernetes experienceAWS/cloud infrastructure experienceStrong coding and automation skills - Java, Python, Go, JavaScript, BashExperience building infrastructure and production systems, not simply administering themAn understanding of distributed systems, scalability and reliabilityExperience troubleshooting and debugging complex production environmentsThe confidence to contribute to architecture and challenge how systems are designed and operatedPrevious experience within Defence, Defence Technology or UK Government environments is essential. This is a fast-moving, high-autonomy engineering environment, so we're looking for people who enjoy taking ownership, learning quickly and solving difficult technical problems. The role is hybrid but candidates need to be within practical travelling distance of London, as classified work requires onsite attendance.
