Mid-Level Back-end Developer – Nest.js

About the Role We're looking for a backend developer with at least 3 years of experience to help build and maintain the APIs and services that power Sahara Mind's mental health platform. You'll work on real systems used by both our web and mobile applications, with a focus on writing clean, reliable code that scales. This is a hands-on role—you'll spend most of your time writing code, but you'll also contribute to technical decisions and collaborate with the broader engineering team. What You'll Do Backend Development Develop and maintain Nest.js API routes and backend services for our web and mobile appsWrite clean, testable REST APIs with proper error handling and validationBuild reusable server-side modules and servicesReview code and provide thoughtful feedback to teammatesDatabase & Data Work with PostgreSQL: design schemas, write efficient queries, optimize performanceUnderstand and follow data modeling best practicesHelp troubleshoot database-related issues in productionTesting & Quality Write unit and integration tests for the code you shipDebug production issues and trace root causesHelp improve application stability through monitoring and loggingFollow testing best practices as part of your workflowIntegration & DevOps Integrate third-party services (authentication, payments, email/SMS, notifications)Work with Docker to containerize applicationsUnderstand CI/CD pipelines and help troubleshoot deployment issuesMonitor application health and logs; alert the team to problemsCollaboration Work directly with frontend developers, QA, and product to understand requirementsDocument APIs and technical decisions clearlyContribute to team knowledge through code reviews and discussions What We're Looking For Required 3 or more years of professional backend development experienceStrong hands-on experience with Nest.js and JavaScript (ES6+)Solid understanding of REST API design and HTTPExperience with PostgreSQL or similar relational databasesComfortable with asynchronous programming patternsFamiliarity with Git and collaborative workflowsKnowledge of authentication (JWT, OAuth)Problem-solving skills and ability to debug issues independentlyNice to Have TypeScript experienceDocker and containerizationAWS or other cloud platformsRedis or caching technologiesMessage queues (RabbitMQ, Kafka)CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI)Monitoring tools (Grafana, Prometheus, CloudWatch)Understanding of backend security basicsA degree in Computer Science or related field is a plus, but strong experience can substitute.
