Senior Software Engineer - Java, Spring & React Melbourne | Hybrid | Permanent Own and evolve a business-critical retail POS platform Hands-on role across Java, Spring and React Progress towards technical leadership or architecture The opportunity We’re partnering with a large organisation seeking a Senior Software Engineer to help own and evolve a critical POS platform operating across an extensive national store network. Working across Java, Spring and React, you’ll contribute to the development, stability and scalability of POS, back-office and wider store systems. The role combines hands-on engineering with complex integrations, production problem-solving and technical leadership. This would suit a strong Senior Engineer ready for greater ownership or a hands-on Tech Lead looking to influence architecture and engineering standards. What you’ll be doing Designing and developing backend services using Java and Spring Building and improving user-facing applications with React Taking ownership of components across POS, back-office and store environments Integrating with ERP systems, payment gateways, loyalty platforms and enterprise applications Supporting reliable transaction processing across distributed systems Investigating production incidents and leading root cause analysis Improving CI/CD pipelines, testing, releases and deployment automation Monitoring performance, reliability and platform capacity Contributing to architecture and technical decision-making Mentoring engineers and collaborating with technical and business stakeholders What we’re looking for Strong commercial experience with Java and Spring Frontend development experience using React Experience with APIs, integrations and distributed systems Confidence working with complex, production-critical platforms Familiarity with CI/CD tooling such as Azure DevOps and Git Solid database, performance and troubleshooting knowledge Strong communication and stakeholder management skills Experience with retail or POS systems, ERP integrations, payments or loyalty platforms would be highly regarded. Exposure to observability tools, scripting, automation, Windows/Linux environments or infrastructure fundamentals would also be beneficial. Why consider this role?
