That's why we are committed to creating a supportive, collaborative, and rewarding work environment where employees can thrive both professionally and personally. About the role We are establishing a Platform Engineering capability to improve how our engineering teams build, test and release software. We are looking for a hands-on DevOps Engineer to help development and QA teams establish consistent continuous integration practices. Your initial focus will be implementing CI pipelines that provide fast feedback, improve code quality and identify problems before changes reach production. You will work from an agreed platform roadmap and collaborate closely with the hiring manager, developers and QA engineers. You will help teams automate builds, tests and quality checks while creating reusable pipeline templates that can gradually be adopted across the company. This is not primarily a cloud migration or infrastructure administration role. It is a practical engineering role focused on making software delivery safer, more consistent and easier for development teams. What you will do Implement continuous integration ● Review existing build and testing processes with guidance from the hiring manager and application teams. ● Build and maintain CI pipelines for selected applications. ● Automate application builds, dependency installation, test execution and artifact creation. ● Configure pull-request or merge-request validation and appropriate branch protections. ● Ensure generated artifacts are versioned and traceable to their source code and pipeline run. ● Help remove repetitive manual steps from the build and validation process. ● Troubleshoot pipeline failures with developers and QA engineers. ● Document pipeline usage and common troubleshooting procedures. Introduce automated quality checks ● Integrate existing unit tests into CI pipelines. ● Add linting, formatting and static-analysis checks where appropriate. ● Integrate dependency vulnerability scanning, secret detection and basic security checks. ● Implement quality thresholds agreed with the hiring manager and application teams. ● Ensure pipeline errors provide clear and useful feedback. ● Monitor pipeline duration, failure patterns and flaky tests. ● Recommend incremental improvements based on actual pipeline results. Support developers and QA with testing ● Work with developers to ensure their unit and integration tests run reliably in CI. ● Work with QA engineers to integrate automated API, functional and regression tests into the pipeline. ● Help teams identify a small number of critical business journeys to automate first. ● Assist with configuring test environments and managing non-sensitive test configuration. ● Help investigate unreliable, slow or environment-dependent tests. ● Publish test results and reports in a form that teams can easily understand. ● Encourage appropriate use of unit, integration, API and end-to-end tests. Developers and QA engineers will remain responsible for defining application behavior and creating most application-specific tests. The DevOps Engineer will enable those tests to run consistently and provide useful feedback. Create reusable components ● Develop reusable pipeline templates and shared pipeline components. ● Follow agreed standards for builds, testing, artifact management and security. ● Integrate pipelines with source control, artifact repositories and test environments. ● Use secure methods to manage pipeline credentials and secrets. ● Help ensure solutions work effectively in our predominantly on-premises environment. ● Maintain clear examples and onboarding documentation. ● Support additional teams as they adopt the standard pipeline. Collaborate and share knowledge ● Participate in working sessions with development, QA, security and operations teams. ● Pair with developers and QA engineers when onboarding applications. ● Explain pipeline behavior and quality checks clearly. ● Provide practical training and documentation. ● Raise technical risks, recurring problems and required decisions to the hiring manager. ● Share progress, blockers and measurable improvements regularly. ● Contribute ideas to the evolving Platform Engineering roadmap. What success looks like During your first 90 days, with guidance from the hiring manager, you will be expected to: ● Understand and document the current build and testing workflow for a selected pilot application. ● Implement a working CI pipeline for the pilot. ● Automate the application build and execution of existing tests. ● Add agreed linting, static-analysis and basic security checks. ● Produce a versioned and traceable build artifact. ● Help developers and QA integrate a prioritized set of automated tests. ● Publish clear pipeline and test results. ● Document how the team uses and troubleshoots the pipeline. ● Extract reusable components for the next application. ● Record improvements in feedback time and manual effort. Over the following six to twelve months, success would include: ● Onboarding additional applications to the standard CI workflow. ● Increasing the use of automated quality checks. ● Improving pipeline reliability and execution time. ● Reducing repetitive manual build and validation work. ● Helping teams detect more defects before production. ● Enabling development teams to resolve common pipeline failures independently. ● Contributing reusable patterns to the company’s internal platform. Essential experience and capabilities ● Practical experience implementing or maintaining CI pipelines. ● Familiarity with at least one CI/CD platform such as GitLab CI, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps or an equivalent system. ● Understanding of Git, pull or merge requests, branching and code-review workflows. ● Experience running automated tests as part of a pipeline. ● Familiarity with linting, static analysis or dependency scanning. ● Working knowledge of Linux and command-line troubleshooting. ● Ability to write and maintain scripts in Bash, Python, PowerShell or a similar language. ● Familiarity with containers or reproducible build environments. ● Understanding of application configuration, environment variables and secure handling of credentials. ● Ability to investigate build, dependency and test failures. ● Ability to write clear technical documentation. ● Good communication skills and a willingness to work directly with development and QA teams. ● Ability to learn unfamiliar application stacks with support from the relevant developers. Desirable experience ● Approximately two to five years of relevant software delivery, DevOps, build engineering, QA automation or systems engineering experience. ● Experience working with on-premises infrastructure. ● Familiarity with artifact repositories and package-management systems. ● Experience with API or functional test-automation tools. ● Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code or configuration-management tools. ● Basic understanding of application monitoring, metrics and centralized logging. ● Familiarity with application security scanning and software supply-chain practices. ● Programming experience in one or more languages used by our development teams. ● Experience supporting multiple applications or engineering teams. Role boundaries This role is responsible for implementing and supporting agreed CI and quality-enablement capabilities. It is not expected to: ● Define the company-wide Platform Engineering strategy independently. ● Make major architectural or tooling decisions without guidance. ● Write every application’s automated tests. ● Own application quality on behalf of developers and QA. ● Approve every production release. ● Become a manual deployment or general infrastructure-support function. ● Migrate the company’s entire technology estate to the cloud.
