Software Data Engineer Location: Hong Kong Industry: Trading Employment Type: Permanent A leading global investment firm is looking for a Software Engineer to join its growing engineering team in Hong Kong. This is a hands-on platform engineering role focused on improving how business-critical datasets are onboarded, validated, monitored and operated in production. You will build software and tooling that helps engineering and investment teams identify data issues earlier, understand their impact and maintain confidence in the information supporting research and trading. The role sits at the intersection of software engineering, data infrastructure and platform reliability. It is best suited to someone who enjoys building robust internal products and frameworks rather than working solely on data pipelines or analytics. Your role: Design and build platforms for managing the quality and reliability of production dataDevelop monitoring, validation and alerting capabilities across critical datasetsBuild reusable libraries, frameworks and developer toolingImprove the onboarding and ongoing operation of new data sourcesCreate services and interfaces that make data health easier to understandInvestigate complex production issues and implement long-term engineering improvementsWork closely with software engineers, data specialists and investment stakeholdersContribute to technical design, architecture and engineering standards Current skills: Strong software engineering experience, particularly with PythonA solid grounding in computer science, software design and data structuresExperience building production platforms, frameworks or internal toolingAn understanding of data quality, observability, monitoring or reliabilityExperience with containerised or cloud-based environmentsStrong ownership and the ability to take projects from initial design through to productionClear communication and the ability to work with both technical and business stakeholders We are particularly interested in engineers with strong technical and academic foundations who have genuinely designed and built production data platforms, tooling or frameworks, not simply maintained existing pipelines and systems. Experience working with large-scale or time-sensitive datasetsExposure to Kubernetes, distributed systems or cloud infrastructureExperience developing shared Python libraries or platform APIsFamiliarity with data validation and observability frameworksPrevious experience in financial services, trading or investment management Industry experience is not essential.
