Our people demonstrate a strong commitment to our corporate values, customer experience, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.
We are looking for diverse, top-notch individuals to join the Mercedes-Benz team and uphold these hallmarks.
Job OverviewThe Enterprise Solution Architect is the technical authority for CodeCraft — the NAFTA shared engineering platform that provides application teams with a reference architecture, common Java/Spring libraries and a managed dependency baseline (BOM), Gradle plugins, an API gateway and centralized configuration, a React/Next.js UI foundation, the nafta-codecraft-dev-process engineering standards, the CodeCraft CLI/forge developer tooling, and an EKS-based cloud-native runtime with AI-enabled and agentic SDLC tooling.
The role owns CodeCraft's target architecture and the standards that govern it, translating business objectives into implementable blueprints, and leading the governance that keeps ~40 platform repositories and their consuming applications coherent, secure, and current.CodeCraft is a multi-entity platform.
The Enterprise Solution Architect works across the NAFTA entities — Mercedes-Benz USA (MBUSA), Mercedes-Benz Financial Services (MBFS), and other NAFTA entities — reconciling differing regulatory, data-residency, and delivery-model requirements into one coherent platform with entity-specific extension points rather than forks.
A central part of the mandate is Agentic AI: designing the architecture, guardrails, and platform capabilities that let autonomous and semi-autonomous AI agents participate safely in the software development lifecycle and in business workflows — and setting the standards for how the organization builds, deploys, and governs them.
This is a hands-on architecture role: the successful candidate spends time in design reviews, ADRs, proofs of concept, and with engineering teams — not only in documentation.
ResponsibilitiesArchitecture & Design· Create and maintain strategic enterprise roadmaps, target architectures, and application landscape blueprints aligned with business objectives.· Own the CodeCraft reference architecture across applications, data, integration, cloud, security, and infrastructure domains — the common-* library set, versions BOM, Gradle plugins, gateway and config-server, UI foundation, and service blueprints.· Design for multi-entity, multi-tenant use: shared platform core with entity-level customization, isolation, and compliance boundaries for MBUSA, MBFS, and other NAFTA entities; define what is standardized centrally versus owned by each entity.· Lead architecture for modernization and migration of legacy EAI and monolithic applications onto CodeCraft golden paths.· Design cloud-native and hybrid-cloud solutions: microservices, event-driven and service-oriented patterns, API-first design, containerized workloads on Kubernetes.· Produce and curate Architecture Decision Records (ADRs), architecture diagrams, and design documentation as the durable record of decisions.· Define integration architecture and API standards (versioning, contracts, backward compatibility) for platform and consuming services.· Design the agentic AI architecture for the platform: agent runtime topology, orchestration and multi-agent patterns, tool/function-calling interfaces, MCP servers and tool registries, retrieval and context strategies (RAG, vector stores), memory, evaluation, and human-in-the-loop checkpoints.
Governance & Standards· Lead architecture governance: architecture review boards, design reviews, exception handling, and technology standards development.· Own the platform's engineering standards — coding, branching, versioning, release, API, and security baselines — and drive their adoption across teams.· Define and steward non-functional requirements: performance, resilience, scalability, observability, cost, and compliance (TISAX, ISO 27001).· Partner with Security and IAM architects to embed secure-by-design and least-privilege principles into every blueprint — including agent identity, scoped credentials, and least-privilege tool access for autonomous agents.· Establish governance for agentic AI: approved models and platforms, autonomy boundaries and approval gates, prompt/agent-configuration change control, auditability and traceability of agent actions, cost and token governance, and controls against prompt injection and data exfiltration.Technical Leadership & Innovation· Lead technical initiatives end to end: evaluate emerging technologies, build proofs of concept, and drive adoption of innovative solutions.· Advise and mentor engineering teams and other architects; raise the design maturity of the organization.· Stay current with emerging technologies in cloud, integration, Generative AI, and intelligent automation, and apply innovative approaches to enhance business and technology capabilities.· Design and integrate AI/ML, Generative AI, and Agentic AI solutions (Azure AI, OpenAI, AWS Bedrock/SageMaker, Google Vertex AI, or equivalent) and champion an AI-enabled SDLC — autonomous coding agents, automated code review, test and documentation generation, and agent-driven remediation of security and dependency findings — within responsible-AI guardrails.· Drive the platform's agentic capabilities as first-class products: agent skills and playbooks, golden-path templates for agent-ready repositories, and the standards that let application teams adopt agents without re-solving safety, identity, and evaluation each time.· Define how success is measured for agentic automation (developer throughput, review quality, remediation lead time, agent success and intervention rates) and use the evidence to guide where autonomy is expanded or constrained.
Stakeholder Management· Act as the bridge between business stakeholders, product owners, and engineering; communicate architecture and trade-offs to both executive and technical audiences.· Maintain the enterprise architecture repository (e.g.
LeanIX) so the application landscape, dependencies, and lifecycle data stay accurate.· Represent the platform in enterprise architecture forums, vendor evaluations, and regional/global alignment discussions.· Build consensus across NAFTA entity architecture and engineering leadership (MBUSA, MBFS, and others) on shared standards, roadmap priorities, and funding/adoption commitments; navigate differing risk appetites — notably regulated financial-services requirements at MBFS — without fragmenting the platform.· Drive CodeCraft adoption: onboard consuming teams, run enablement sessions, and act as escalation point for architectural questions from entity delivery teams.· Operate within Agile/SAFe/SCRUM delivery: contribute to PI planning, architectural runway, and enabler backlogs.
Success Measures — First 12 Months· Published and socialized target architecture and roadmap for the platform, with an accepted ADR backlog.· Functioning architecture governance cadence: review board, documented standards, measurable exception/debt tracking.· Measurable adoption of platform golden paths by consuming teams (services onboarded, standards conformance).· At least one delivered proof of concept in cloud-native or Generative AI/AI-enabled SDLC that progresses to production adoption.· An approved agentic AI blueprint and guardrail set in place, with at least one agentic use case running in the SDLC or a business workflow and its impact measured.· Accurate application landscape in the EA repository, with dependency and lifecycle data maintained.· CodeCraft adoption extended beyond the initial entity — services onboarded from at least one additional NAFTA entity (e.g.
MBFS) under a shared, non-forked platform core.
