Grow with us About this opportunity: Principle Developer: Portability Across COTS Platforms Ericsson seeks a Principal Developer to lead technical strategy and implementation for RAN software portability across heterogeneous commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) platforms. You will join the RAN Performance Systems & Dimensioning team, driving the evolution of software-based RAN solutions toward portable platforms. This role combines deep technical expertise with strategic platform enablement, requiring strong system-level thinking to optimize scalable RAN node solutions across diverse hardware ecosystems (Intel, ARM, AMD, RISC-V). What you will do: Provide technical leadership in enabling and optimizing RAN software across heterogeneous COTS platformsDrive cross-domain portability guardrails and establish architectural alignmentsConduct hands-on, end-to-end onboarding trials to inform platform evaluation decisionsDevelop and continuously enhance portability standards and reusable platform assetsChampion adoption of AI-assisted and agentic automation for benchmarking and validationEnsure COTS platform readiness for multi-workload deployments supporting shared infrastructure scenariosMentor engineering teams in cross-platform development practices and hardware ecosystem adaptationProvide engineering-driven perspectives on platform impacts and onboarding implicationsRepresent RAN portability in technical forums, architecture reviews, and strategic planningGenerate Ericsson intellectual property to strengthen competitive positioningCollaborate with academic and research institutions on applied research relevant to RAN portability The skills you will bring: Master's degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, or equivalentMinimum 12 years as a systems engineer or research engineerStrong background in communications theory, digital signal processing, and COTS architectureApplied experience of using machine learning methodologies including reinforcement learning, federated learning, generative AI, and LLMsProven experience in Agile development environmentsHands-on experience with virtualization and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenStack)Demonstrated ability to conduct platform benchmarking, performance profiling, and end-to-end system validationExperience developing and establishing technical standards, architectural frameworks, and reusable engineering assetsTrack record of mentoring and leading distributed technical teams across multiple sitesPublished contributions to industry research, technical forums, or intellectual property portfolios Essential Competencies: Self-directed with strong capacity to learn independently and perform under pressureExcellent presentation, time-management, and leadership capabilities with cross-cultural effectivenessResults-oriented with customer focus and consistent project deliveryAnalytical approach to problem-solving with structured execution under demanding timelinesFluent in English —verbal and writtenProactive team contributor with commitment to mentoring colleaguesExperience collaborating within international, distributed teamsStrong ownership mentality with commitment to exceeding stakeholder expectations Why join Ericsson? Your Pay The salary offered is dependent on various factors including, but not limited to, location, and the candidate’s combination of job-related knowledge, qualifications, skills, education, training, and experience. The salary range for this position is Ottawa: $169,500 - $222,600 Short-Term Variable Compensation Plan: Your pay also includes the opportunity for an annual bonus. Actual bonus payouts are based on performance of the business against the unit’s objectives, individual performance, and the individual bonus target. Certain eligibility and pro-ration rules apply. Your Health Ericsson offers excellent health benefits including the choice of 3 medical and dental plan options that allow an employee to select the level of coverage that suits their needs. Core level coverage is paid for fully by Ericsson. Your Financial Security We invest in both your short and long-term financial wellbeing. Ericsson’s Group Retirement & Savings Program offers an automatic 2% company contribution into the Pension Plan. Ericsson also offers a 50% match of employee’s contribution into the Registered Retirement Savings Plan, up to 8% of the employee’s contribution (maximum of 4% match). This leads to a total company contribution potential of 6%. Employees will also basic life insurance and basic accidental death and dismemberment coverage at two-times annual base pay at no cost, as well as short-term disability coverage. Employees also have the option to participate in Ericsson’s Stock Purchase Plan. Your Time Your work-life balance is important to us. New employees are provided a minimum of 18 days of accrued vacation, at least 3personal days, minimum 10 holidays, 1 volunteer day, and sick days. Please note paid time off is pro-rated based on the employee’s start date. Furthermore, Ericsson provides up to 10 weeks of paid maternity leave and 6 weeks of parental or adoption leave at 100% of pay.
