Role Description The Senior Software Engineer will use Agentic engineering to design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services, Databases and APIs that power DemandTec’s AI-driven retail platform. This is a full-time role, with flexibility to work from home, but requires you to live in the Chicago region (weekly in-person meetings), and requires flexibility for coordination with multiple timezone teams. Day-to-day responsibilities include implementing new features, optimizing existing services, reviewing code, and ensuring high performance, reliability, and security across systems. The Senior Software Engineer will collaborate closely with product managers, data scientists, and other engineers to translate business requirements into robust technical solutions. The role also involves mentoring team members, contributing to architecture decisions, and supporting continuous integration, testing, and deployment practices. Qualifications Strong foundation in Computer Science principles, including data structures, algorithms, distributed systems, and software designProficiency in Software Development leveraging Agentic engineering (Claude Code/Codex) with experience delivering production-quality products (rather than consulting)Hands-on experience in Back-End Web Development, including building and maintaining APIs and microservices, and databasesStrong Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, or GCP) and containerization/orchestration tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).Experience with RDBMS (esp Postgres), Data access technologies, performance tuning, and data modelingComfort with modern development and devops practices, such as CI/CD pipelines, Agentic engineering, automated testing, and version control (e.g., Git).Flexibility to work with different timezones, strong problem-solving abilities, collaborative mindset, and clear communication skills in cross-functional teamsBachelor’s or higher degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related fieldExperience in retail, pricing, or data-intensive SaaS products is a plus
