As an Intermediate Platform Development Engineer (Platform Development Engineer II) at Best Buy, within our Reliability Platforms Team, you will be responsible for the development, administration, maintenance, and lifecycle management of enterprise observability and reliability platforms, including monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including DevOps, Infrastructure, Network, and Product teams. We practice a remote-first working model, leveraging in-person interactions at our head office, in beautiful Vancouver, BC, for strategic, collaborative, and social purposes. Join our collaborative team as an Intermediate Platform Development Engineer! What You’ll Do Design, develop, and enhance self-service capabilities for enterprise reliability and observability platforms.Develop and maintain monitoring, logging, and alerting capabilities to proactively identify and address platform and application issues, ensuring platform stability, availability, and performance.Deploy, administer, and maintain reliability platforms using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and configuration management practices.Own platform lifecycle management activities, including installation, configuration, upgrades, patching, vulnerability remediation, and decommissioning activities.Identify and implement automation opportunities to improve platform operations, reduce manual effort, and enhance engineering productivity.Work closely with other platform development engineers, DevOps and infrastructure teams to align platform development efforts with business objectives and technical requirements.Participate in incident reviews, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives to prevent recurrence and improve platform reliability.Collaborate with various teams to conduct capacity planning and resource optimization, ensuring adequate capacity to meet current and future demand.Maintain comprehensive documentation of platform architectures, configurations, operational procedures, and automation workflows to support knowledge sharing and operational excellence.Evaluate and implement improvements to existing platforms by leveraging industry best practices, emerging technologies, observability capabilities, and AI-assisted operational tools. What We’re Looking For 3+ years of experience in Platform Engineering, DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering, or Infrastructure Engineering.Strong scripting and automation experience using Python, PowerShell, Bash, or similar technologies.2+ years of experience using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and configuration management tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible).2+ years of experience administering, developing, or supporting enterprise monitoring and observability platforms (e.g., Dynatrace, Prometheus, Grafana, Azure Monitor, SolarWinds).2+ years of experience working with logging, alerting, and operational platforms (e.g., Elastic, PagerDuty, GoAlert, Splunk).2+ years of experience working with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP.2+ years of experience deploying and supporting containerized applications and orchestration platforms (e.g., OpenShift, Kubernetes, Docker).Experience with platform upgrades, patching, vulnerability remediation, and lifecycle management of enterprise platforms.Experience leveraging automation and AI-assisted engineering tools to improve operational efficiency and platform reliability is considered an asset.Experience working with Linux operating systems.Strong analytical, troubleshooting, problem-solving, and collaborative skills.
