Role Description The Software Engineer Intern role at Backpackrr is a full-time, on-site position based in Erie, PA. Interns will work with the engineering team to design, build, and maintain software features, with a primary focus on back-end web development and system integration. Day-to-day responsibilities include writing clean and efficient code, debugging and resolving issues, contributing to code reviews, and assisting with testing to ensure reliability and performance. Interns will collaborate with senior engineers to implement new functionality, improve existing services, and document technical decisions. This role offers hands-on experience in modern development practices and an opportunity to learn from experienced professionals in a collaborative office environment. Qualifications Strong foundation in Computer Science concepts, such as data structures, algorithms, and software design principles.Skills in Software Development and Programming, with experience in at least one modern programming language (e.g., Java, Python, JavaScript, C#, or similar).Knowledge of Back-End Web Development, including APIs, databases, and server-side frameworks.Understanding of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) and the ability to apply OOP principles to real-world projects.Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.Ability to work on-site in Erie, PA, collaborate effectively in a team setting, and communicate clearly in spoken and written English.Basic familiarity with version control tools (such as Git) and software development workflows.Demonstrated curiosity, problem-solving skills, and a willingness to learn new technologies and approaches.
