Job Description
We are seeking an experienced professional in Solutions Engineering to support a cloud-first strategy for Canadian operations, with a strong focus on AWS and Microsoft Azure.
The role will design, implement, automate, document, and support secure, scalable, resilient, and cost-effective technology / cloud solutions that align with enterprise architecture, cyber security, compliance, governance, and business requirements.
This role reports to the Enterprise Architect and will work closely with business, engineering, data, security, storage and architecture teams, the role will translate functional requirements into reusable technology solutions, reference architectures, high-level designs (HLDs), low-level designs (LLDs), design decisions, implementation roadmaps, and production-ready services across Azure.
The successful candidate will work with partners, vendors, architects, engineering teams, and department management to deliver new business and engineering capabilities while improving automation, resilience, security, cost control, and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Design end-to-end cloud solutions, primarily MS Azure, aligned to enterprise architecture, security standards, operational requirements, and Canadian compliance obligations.
Translate business and engineering needs into scalable, secure, reliable, and cost-effective technical architectures.
Produce and maintain architecture artefacts, including HLDs, LLDs, reference architectures, technical options papers, decision records, standards, and implementation roadmaps.
Support solution design for integrations, including APIs, data pipelines, event-driven architectures, identity integration, and secure connectivity patterns.
Drive automation using Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD pipelines, including Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, Azure ARM templates, and Azure Bicep.
Provide hands-on technical input and validation during implementation, including Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD, identity, networking, monitoring, security, integration, and operational readiness.
Leverage Microsoft 365, Copilot, and Power Platform capabilities for workflow automation, reporting, collaboration, and productivity improvements.
Ensure solutions meet security, compliance, data governance, data residency, audit, and risk management requirements for Canadian operations.
Collaborate with engineering, data, security, architecture, and business teams to deliver reusable cloud patterns, reference architectures, and operationally supportable services.
Support pre-sales, strategy, and roadmap discussions by providing technical input, options analysis, trade-offs, risks, dependencies, and recommendations.
Monitor and optimise cloud solutions for performance, reliability, resilience, security, and cost, applying a FinOps mindset.
Stay current with emerging cloud, AI, automation, integration, and security capabilities and apply them pragmatically to business and engineering outcomes.
Qualifications
Microsoft 365, Copilot and Power Platform: Experience leveraging Microsoft 365, Copilot Studio, Power Platform, Microsoft Graph, and related services to design and automate business processes, enable self-service solutions, improve collaboration, and integrate enterprise workflows.
Cloud Platforms (AWS & Azure): Experience designing, deploying, and operating enterprise cloud environments, including landing zones, networking, identity, compute, storage, monitoring, security, governance, and hybrid integration.
Hands-on experience with core AWS and Azure platform services, including VPC/VNet, IAM/Entra ID, EC2/Azure Compute, S3/Azure Storage, CloudWatch/Azure Monitor, CloudTrail/Log Analytics, KMS/Key Vault, Route 53, Transit Gateway, Azure Policy, AWS Organizations, Control Tower, and Management Groups.
Infrastructure as Code: Strong proficiency with Terraform and AWS CloudFormation, with working knowledge of Azure ARM templates and Bicep; ability to create, review, and govern modular IaC patterns deployed through CI/CD pipelines.
Security, Compliance and Data Governance: Strong knowledge of cloud security best practices, least privilege access, encryption, logging, monitoring, policy guardrails, vulnerability management, data governance, data residency, audit evidence, and Canadian compliance considerations, including Controlled Goods Program (CGP), CCCS Medium / Protected B aligned controls where applicable, and ITAR-related handling requirements.
FinOps and Operational Excellence: Ability to monitor, optimise, and govern cloud services for performance, reliability, resilience, security, and cost.
Hybrid, Network and Data Platforms: Practical understanding of hybrid cloud, storage, backup, disaster recovery, monitoring, observability, network connectivity, firewalls, WAF, SD-WAN, Windows Server, and Unix/Linux platforms.
Integration and Automation: Experience designing APIs, integrations, event-driven services, and automated workflows across cloud and enterprise platforms.
It is a requirement that General Dynamics Mission Systems–Canada be registered with the Canadian Controlled Goods Program and that all of its workforce be security assessed.
Successful applicants must meet all applicable security requirements, including but not limited to the ability to obtain and maintain a Canadian government security clearance.

Additional Information
The hiring range for this position is $100,000 - $140,000 CAD annually.
