Role Description This full-time, hybrid Software Engineer role is based in Tokyo, Japan. The Software Engineer will design, develop, test, and maintain backend services and web applications that power Hireline’s recruitment platform. Responsibilities include implementing scalable APIs, optimizing system performance, integrating with social media and third-party services, and fixing UX frictions that are flagged by other customer facing teams. Required Qualifications Conversational English and Japanese proficiency. Native level in one or the other.2 to 5 years of professional experience in web application development.Ability to write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code.Authorization to work in JapanAbility to work from Hireline's Tokyo office three days per weekAbility to work on a 6:00 to 15:00 schedule Preferred Qualifications Proficiency in TypeScript or JavaScript; experience with modern frameworks such as SvelteKit, React, or Vue is beneficial.Hands-on experience building and operating web applications, including working with relational databases and integrating external servicesExperience with version control systems (e.g., Git) and collaborative development workflows, including code reviewFamiliarity with AI-assisted development toolsBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. Compensation and Employment Terms Expected total annual compensation of 8 to 10 million JPYNo fixed overtime allowance; overtime is compensated in fullWorking hours are 6:00 to 15:00 JST, to overlap with the core US teamHybrid work schedule, with three days per week in the Tokyo (Akasaka) officePermanent, full-time employment with a six-month probationary periodApproximately 125 days off per year, full statutory social insurance, commuting allowance, company-provided MacBook and equipment, paid AI tool subscriptions, and one to two in-person team offsites per year Employment is administered through Remote Japan K.K., an employer of record, until Hireline's Japanese subsidiary is established, at which point employment transfers with tenure and conditions maintained
