Forte Group is looking for a Senior .NET Engineer (AI-focused) to join our team.
Our client is a healthcare technology company that manages patient financial assistance for approximately 50% of cancer centers in the United States.
About the project
This is a core .NET Backend Engineering role focused on building resilient Azure integration pipelines while leveraging AI-native development workflows (Claude Code).
As a Senior .NET Engineer, you will work on a full re-architecture of the client’s data ingestion pipeline: migrating off a legacy integration platform (e.g., MuleSoft) onto a modern Azure-native foundation with built-in observability, deterministic data validation, and AI-first delivery practices.
The pipeline feeds downstream AI-driven workflows already in production, including an enrollment filtering model using the Claude API and a proprietary XGBoost model in shadow testing.
What You Will Do
Build the Azure-Native Ingestion Pipeline
Implement Azure Functions, Service Bus, Event Grid, and Azure SQL integration components as designed by the Data ArchitectBuild the HL7 v2.x message parsing, mapping, and normalization layer across a variable client ecosystem.Build the data validation service: rules-based deterministic checks at the point of ingestion.Build the logging and replay service: structured logging with end-to-end traceability so the team can identify exactly where a message fails and reprocess from that point.Implement per-practice monitoring and alerting so failures surface the day they happen without a user reporting themDeliver baseline instrumentation: time and cost per workflow step measured for the first time, creating the foundation any later analytics and optimization would build on
Embed the AI-First Delivery Foundation
Use Claude Code and equivalent agentic tooling as a condition of being on this engagement.
Active daily use in the terminal and IDE for writing implementation plans, generating and reviewing code, and iterating on production software.Carry shared team skills that give the AI model architectural context so it builds inside the intended design.
The implementation plan is the mechanism.Build human-in-the-loop validation into the pipeline at appropriate points.
AI proposes, people decide.
Low-confidence outputs route to human review.
That boundary is designed in, not bolted on.Transfer the practice to the client team through working alongside them every day
Skills & Experience
6+ years in software engineering with a strong backend foundation and genuine curiosity about how AI changes the way production systems are built and operatedStrong C# and .NET Core expertiseExperience building and shipping production services on Azure: Azure Functions, Azure Service Bus, Azure Event Grid, and Azure SQL.
Proven experience with event-driven, message-based pipeline architectureSolid understanding of async and concurrent patterns, streaming, and batch processing in a .NET context.
Data Pipelines & Integration
HL7 v2.x message processing: parsing, mapping, and handling the variability that comes from real-world clinical systems.
Strong preference for prior HL7 experience is a plus.Experience with SFTP, API polling, and flat-file ingestion patterns in addition to message-based formats.Data validation and normalization at scale: building checks that confirm the same source produces the same output the same way, and catching where it does not.Observability tooling: structured logging, distributed tracing, replay architecture, and alerting.
Application Insights or OpenTelemetry experience is a plus.
AI-Native Development
Active daily use of modern agentic AI dev tools (Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Aider, etc.) and readiness to adopt Claude Code as the primary team standard.Comfortable writing implementation plans as the primary review artifact before code is written.
Experience with AI-assisted code generation at a pace that only works with plan-first discipline.Understanding of how deterministic validation and AI-based anomaly detection complement each other in a pipeline context.
Knowing when each approach is right.Familiarity with LLM APIs, structured output, and how production AI systems behave differently from traditional software.
Experience integrating AI model outputs into a downstream workflow is a plus.Awareness of human-in-the-loop design patterns: when AI output should be acted on automatically versus routed to a human, and how that boundary gets built into a system from the start.
Production & Delivery
Azure DevOps: CI/CD pipeline management, branching strategy, and pull request discipline.Strong unit and integration testing discipline.
Experience with evaluation infrastructure for AI-assisted outputs is a meaningful plus.Embedded delivery mindset.
Excellent communication skills with proven ability to work directly within a client's team, articulate design decisions, and mentor others.Good decisions under time pressure, without cutting corners on quality, is essential.
Nice to Have
Prior experience migrating from a legacy integration platform (Mulesoft or similar) to a cloud-native architectureDatabricks familiarityHealthcare technology experience, particularly with clinical data formats, EMR integrations, or revenue cycle systemsExperience with agentic workflows, RAG pipelines, or LLM-powered automation in productionData governance experience in a regulated environment: PHI handling, audit trails, BAA compliance
What Sets You Apart
You can walk us through a production system you built and tell us what went wrong.
When you talk about data pipelines, you talk about failure modes, replay logic, and observability—not just moving data from A to B.
You have dealt with variable real-world inputs, undocumented upstream behaviors, and firm deadlines.
You are genuinely curious about AI-native engineering.
You don't need to be an ML Engineer, but you have clear opinions on where AI adds value, where it doesn't, and how it transforms the software development lifecycle.
You bring these practices forward collaboratively, helping client teams level up alongside you.
