About The Role
We are seeking an experienced signalling professional to join the Signals, Comms & Plant (SCP) Reliability Engineering Team supporting WAIO Rail.
Reporting to the Reliability Lead, Signals, Comms & Plant (SCP), this role is responsible for improving the reliability, availability and performance of signalling assets across the WAIO rail network.
Working closely with Maintenance, Engineering and Projects teams, you will provide technical leadership in asset management, maintenance strategy optimisation, defect elimination and lifecycle planning, using data-driven decision making to support safe, reliable and sustainable operations.
The successful candidate will combine strong technical and analytical capabilities with passion for improving asset reliability, safety and performance.
You will play a key role in monitoring asset performance, driving reliability improvement initiatives and influencing asset management decisions to support the long-term sustainability of signalling assets across WAIO's rail network.

An overriding commitment to health, safety, environmental responsibility and sustainable development.Execute defect elimination routines, translating asset performance insights into targeted improvement recommendations and actions to reduce recurring failures and operational risk.Lead or participate in Root Cause Analyses (RCA) for signalling failures and business-defined trigger events, identifying root causes and implementing sustainable corrective actions to prevent recurrence.Monitor signalling asset performance and analyse reliability trends to identify emerging risks and improvement opportunities.Provide governance and oversight of condition monitoring activities, asset health assessments and associated data interpretation.Develop, review and optimise maintenance strategies through maintenance task reviews, interval optimisation and continuous improvement initiatives to improve signalling asset reliability, availability and maintainability.Analyse asset condition, performance and lifecycle requirements to develop asset management plans that support long-term sustainability, capital forecasting and asset renewal decisions.Develop scopes, business justifications and technical recommendations for reliability improvement initiatives and capital replacement projects, providing technical expertise from concept development through to execution.Provide technical expertise and engineering support to Operations and Maintenance teams to support safe and effective maintenance execution.Act as a key interface between Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Projects and OEM/vendor representatives on signalling asset performance and reliability matters.
Essential
About you
Degree qualification in Electrical, Electronic, Systems, or a related technical discipline, or a Trade Qualification with significant signalling experience.Demonstrated experience in railway signalling systems within a rail operations, maintenance or asset management environment, with responsibility for asset performance, reliability improvement and technical decision making.Experience analysing asset performance, identifying opportunities and implementing initiatives to improve reliability, availability and maintainability.Strong analytical, problem-solving and fault investigation skills, with the ability to translate data into actionable insights and recommendations.Proven commitment to safety leadership and risk management.Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence decision making through technical recommendations.Ability to collaborate effectively with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering and Project teams.Ability to work autonomously, manage competing priorities and deliver outcomes in a dynamic operational environment.Experience using SAP Work Management or equivalent maintenance management systems.Minimum C or CA Class Driver's Licence.
Desirable
Heavy haul rail experience will be highly regarded.Experience in Reliability Centred Maintenance (RCM), Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and defect elimination methodologiesKnowledge and experience with traditional railway signalling systems and associated infrastructure, including interlockings, train detection systems, points and turnout equipment, signalling power systems, train control systems and level crossing protection.Experience with modern rail signalling technologies such as Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC), ETCS Level 2 or other advanced train control and protection systems.Experience with condition monitoring, remote diagnostics and asset health monitoring technologies for signalling assets, including points, signalling power systems and other critical infrastructure.Experience using Power BI, Python or similar analytical and visualisation tools to support asset performance analysis and data-driven decision making.Knowledge of rail safety regulatory requirements, signalling principles and engineering standards.
