✨ AI‑Generated
We are seeking a Software Engineer to design, build, and maintain backend services and data pipelines that power critical mathematical models for high‑impact decision making. You will work within a tight, collaborative team, creating clean APIs and production‑ready machine‑learning solutions while directly influencing how clients solve complex problems.
Highlights
Opportunity to work in a boutique consultancy that combines advanced mathematics, optimization, and machine learning to build core models for high‑stakes client decisions. Join a small, flat team with minimal bureaucracy, focusing on backend APIs, data pipelines, and productionizing models while collaborating directly with senior engineers.
Description
Endgame is a boutique, technology-led consultancy providing expert mathematical and economic advice to clients across energy, aviation, road and rail, and water.
We combine advanced mathematical optimisation and machine learning with deep sector expertise.
As a Gurobi Premier Partner, we build models that sit at the core of how clients make high-stakes decisions.
THE ROLE
You'll be a mid-level engineer in a small team, working alongside senior engineers to build and maintain backend services and the data pipelines that feed our models and platforms.
This is a genuinely hybrid backend/data role - you'll spend your time evenly between building APIs and services, building pipelines and productionising models.
We’re a small, flat team of consultants and software engineers.
There’s no bureaucracy to navigate here; the people who build things are the people who decide how they get built.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
Design, build and maintain clean, well-tested backend services and APIs that expose our models and forecasts to clients and internal users Take models built by our quantitative team from research code to production systems that run at scale Contribute to architecture decisions and code review across the team Own your own infrastructure on AWS: write the IaC, build the deployment and CI/CD pipelines, and run long or large solve workloads reliably and cost-effectively Build and maintain the data pipelines that feed the models
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Our target stack is Python, PostgreSQL, extensive use of AWS, Docker, Airflow with a React frontend and Python-based optimisation layer and services.
We’re looking for someone who cares deeply about the craft of software engineering and is motivated to ship high-quality production code using best practices
3-5 years professional software engineering experience Strong python knowledge and experience Strong SQL and experience designing schemasExperience working with data pipelines Comfortability with cloud services (AWS preferred) Someone who can communicate when A.I.
is beneficial and what its limitations are Strong communication skills, including with non-technical stakeholders
Nice to have
Infrastructure and DevOps exposure: infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, CDK), containers, CI/CD pipelines Mathematical optimisation: linear or mixed integer programming, exposure to solvers such as Gurobi, CPLEX or HiGHS, or modelling libraries like Pyomo or JuMP Energy market experience, particularly the NEM, or experience in another regulated, data-rich market
LIFE AT ENDGAME
We know that our people are our greatest asset.
That’s why we invest in our team by fostering opportunities for growth, development, and recognition.
Learning & Development – You’ll work across energy, aviation, road and rail, and water, on problems that are genuinely hard rather than variations on the same build.
Sitting alongside mathematicians and economists, you’ll pick up depth in optimisation, machine learning and the sectors we advise in, the kind of exposure that’s difficult to get anywhere but a small firm doing specialist work.
Reward & Recognition – Remuneration is competitive and reviewed regularly.
In a team this size, the work you do is visible to everyone, and scope expands as quickly as you can take it on.
Flexibility & Autonomy – The two go hand in hand.
Endgame advocates flexibility to balance work and personal life, as well as significant autonomy and ownership of the systems you build.
You’ll be setting the direction of the data platform, not implementing someone else’s plan for it.
Collaboration – You’ll be the data engineering voice in a team of technical specialists, working closely with the consultants and modellers who depend on your pipelines.
Expect code review, pairing and design discussions with engineers whose experience spans a range of industries and stacks.
