Role Description:
The Backend Engineer will design, build, and maintain scalable server-side components that power PPLIED’s matching and communication platform.
This full-time hybrid role is based in San Jose, CA, with flexibility for partial work from home.
Day-to-day responsibilities include developing APIs and microservices, optimizing database queries, integrating with third-party services, and ensuring system reliability and performance.
The role also involves collaborating closely with product managers and front-end engineers to translate business requirements into technical solutions, writing clean and testable code, and participating in code reviews.
The Backend Engineer will help improve system architecture, implement best practices for security and data integrity, and contribute to continuous deployment and monitoring processes.
Qualifications:
Strong proficiency in Back-End Web Development and Software Development, with experience building scalable, production-grade services.Solid understanding of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) and general Programming principles, including clean code, testing, and debugging.Basic familiarity with Front-End Development concepts to collaborate effectively with client-side teams.Experience with server-side languages and frameworks (e.g., Node.js, Python, Java, or similar) and RESTful or GraphQL API design.Knowledge of relational and/or NoSQL databases, caching strategies, and performance optimization.Comfort with version control (Git), CI/CD pipelines, and deployment to cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, or Azure).Understanding of security best practices, data privacy, and reliability in distributed systems.Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.Effective communication skills, ability to work in a hybrid environment, and willingness to collaborate in cross-functional teams.
