We’re recruiting an experienced Senior Software Developer to join an innovative engineering team, developing high-performance backend software solutions using Java and C++ within Linux environments. This is a senior-level position offering the opportunity to take technical ownership, contribute to architecture and technical strategy, and mentor other developers while working on complex, enterprise-scale systems. What you’ll be doing: • Designing and developing high-performance backend applications using Java and C++ • Building APIs, microservices and distributed applications • Leading the technical design and implementation of software components and services • Developing multithreaded and concurrent applications • Troubleshooting and optimising software performance within Linux environments • Conducting code reviews and maintaining high engineering standards • Supporting architectural decisions and technical roadmaps • Containerising applications using Docker • Contributing to CI/CD and DevSecOps practices • Mentoring junior and mid-level software engineers • Working closely with customers and internal stakeholders to translate requirements into technical solutions What we’re looking for: ✅ 5+ years’ commercial software development experience ✅ Strong Java and/or C++ development skills ✅ Strong experience working within Linux environments ✅ Backend applications, APIs and distributed systems experience ✅ Strong understanding of software architecture, design patterns and OOP ✅ Experience with multithreading and concurrent development ✅ Relational and/or NoSQL database experience ✅ Docker/containerisation knowledge ✅ CI/CD experience – Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD or Azure DevOps ✅ Git/version control experience ✅ Strong debugging, performance analysis and problem-solving skills ✅ Experience working within Agile development environments 🎁 Package & Benefits 💰 Salary up to £80,000, depending on experience 🏖️ 25 days’ annual leave + bank holidays 🏥 AXA Healthcare* 🚲 Cycle to Work scheme 🚗 Company EV Car Scheme* 💷 Company pension contributions 📚 Dedicated training package and development budget 📈 Excellent opportunities for career progression 🔐 Please note: Due to the nature of the work, applicants must hold valid SC Security Clearance at the time of application.
