Senior Developer in Test – Java, APIs & Microservices CloudMarc is seeking a highly technical Senior Developer in Test to join a major enterprise transformation program in Melbourne. This role is designed for someone with a genuine software-engineering background who has chosen to specialise in Quality Engineering. You will need to be comfortable discussing Java, APIs, microservices, framework architecture and coding approaches with experienced developers and Engineering Managers. This is not a traditional automation-testing position focused only on maintaining Selenium scripts. You will design and build quality-engineering solutions using strong software-development principles. The opportunity You will work closely with developers, Engineering Managers and delivery teams to build quality into complex digital platforms and distributed systems. Your responsibilities will include: Designing and developing test-automation frameworks from the beginningWriting high-quality automation code using JavaBuilding automated coverage for REST APIs and microservicesDeveloping component, integration, contract and end-to-end testsTesting distributed systems and service integrationsReviewing requirements, architecture and technical designsApplying clean-code principles and established software-design patternsIntegrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelinesInvestigating complex defects using logs, SQL, debugging and troubleshooting techniquesWorking directly with developers to improve testability and engineering qualityContributing reusable libraries, utilities and framework componentsIdentifying the appropriate level and type of automated coverageSupporting release readiness and continuous-delivery practices What we are looking for You will have: Strong hands-on Java coding experienceA solid software-engineering or development backgroundExperience with MavenStrong TestNG or JUnit experienceHands-on REST API and microservices testingExperience designing automation frameworks from scratchA strong understanding of clean code and software-design patternsExperience with Git and collaborative development workflowsSQL and database-validation experienceStrong debugging, investigation and troubleshooting capabilityExperience integrating tests with Jenkins, Azure DevOps, GitLab CI or similar platformsThe ability to communicate confidently with senior developers and Engineering Managers Highly desirable Experience in one or more of the following would be valuable: GraphQLDocker or KubernetesKafka or another event-streaming or messaging platformAWS or AzureContract testing and service virtualisationPerformance or resilience testingCloud-native and distributed-system testing The type of person we want You may currently be working as a: Developer in TestSenior Developer in TestSoftware Development Engineer in TestSenior SDETJava Automation EngineerSoftware Engineer specialising in quality You should be someone who approaches automation as a software-engineering discipline—not simply as a collection of test scripts.
