Description

As the Database Engineer, the role holder will work on the development, testing, automation, and maintenance of the database stack for all products. The role requires an understanding of and passion for databases such as MySQL and PostgreSQL, with a focus on complex design considerations needed to achieve exceptional performance, reliability, and availability. The role holder will understand product requirements and collaborate with other teams to adapt and optimise both the product and the database stack for the best product performance. Responsibilities: Be an integral part of the team responsible for delivering, upgrading, and maintaining HAUD products. Work closely with developers and architects on the design and optimisation of data aspects. Install, maintain, monitor and optimise the database stack. Ensure database availability and reliability, and that proper disaster recovery procedures are in place. Deploy proof of concept (PoC) solutions for new data-related technologies. Help ensure that the required documentation is in place and of good quality. Understand the data to help optimise queries and schemas. Coordinate with other team members on database best practices and usage. Help other teams access data effectively. Utilize the latest technologies such as AI to implement, deliver, script and automate repeated tasks. Any other related task assigned by the management team. Requirements A university degree or equivalent qualification in computer engineering or a related field. Passion for building, designing, and creating products of the highest quality. Practical experience working with databases and open-source software. Willingness to learn and research new technologies. Ability to work with various teams to achieve a common goal. Excellent problem-solving skills. High levels of initiative and self-motivation and able to work with minimal supervision. Ability to see the big picture and work towards attaining the best possible results. Team player, able to work with other teams and strive to obtain the best possible product. Good communication and reporting skills. Ability to work successfully under tight project deadlines and prioritise efficiently. Readiness to be challenged and to challenge oneself and current processes. Well organised and goal oriented with a can-do attitude and willingness to improve. Technical Skills: o Linux: Very good working knowledge, with a minimum of three years of experience. o Database Administration: Good knowledge of MySQL and/or PostgreSQL administration. o SQL: Very good knowledge of SQL querying and stored procedures. o Scripting: Good knowledge of a scripting languages such as Python. o Containerisation: Working knowledge of Docker or another containerisation technology. o Experience using Apache Airflow is considered an asset. o Experience using AI tools to support database administration, scripting, automation, or troubleshooting will be considered an asset.
