About The Role
As a Staff Software Engineer (m/f/d), you will be a key technical authority responsible for making complex, unclear, or broken systems manageable and scalable.
You will own the architecture of our full-stack platform, which includes the web application used daily by doctors, optician partners, and their customers, as well as the supporting backend services and infrastructure on AWS.
This is an individual contributor role with no direct reports, emphasizing deep technical expertise and strategic influence rather than managerial responsibilities.
Your focus will be on shaping the platform’s architecture to ensure it remains fast, reliable, and scalable for international expansion.
You will drive engineering best practices, improve testing strategies, and collaborate closely with product teams to deliver effective solutions that meet real-world product demands.
Your work will directly impact the quality, operability, and scalability of our platform, helping us maintain our standards of excellence in healthcare technology.
Qualifications
Seven or more years of professional software engineering experience, preferably with systems reaching real usersDeep hands-on expertise across the full technology stack, including frontend, backend, and infrastructureStrong proficiency in TypeScript with well-formed opinions and the ability to defend or revise themExperience with cloud infrastructure, particularly AWSBackground in designing and maintaining scalable, reliable, and operable systemsFamiliarity with testing strategies including unit, integration, and end-to-end testingDegree in a STEM field or equivalent practical experienceExperience working in regulated environments such as medical devices or health data systems is a plusFluent in English (C1 level); German language skills are advantageousExperience in start-up or scale-up environments where speed and quality are criticalAbility to take ownership and shape undefined processes proactivelyStrong product focus, with an emphasis on shipping quality features and ensuring excellent user experience
Responsibilities
Own and evolve the architecture of our full-stack platform, including frontend, backend, data, and cloud infrastructureDefine and implement testing strategies to ensure fast, reliable, and comprehensive test coverageAdvance our coding practices by developing tooling, guardrails, and discipline to enable rapid yet safe developmentCollaborate with product teams to balance scope, cost, and quality, surfacing practical solutions and trade-offsDesign systems to be operable and auditable by design, complying with standards such as ISO 27001 and ISO 13485Respond promptly to technical issues, whether scaling bottlenecks or broken integrations, and resolve them effectivelyContribute to process improvements and help shape engineering practices within the teamStay informed about emerging technologies and industry best practices to continuously improve platform robustness and scalability
