Our client, a leading international securities and financial services firm, is seeking an experienced Backend Engineer to join their Core Engineering team in Hong Kong.
In this role, you will design, build, and optimize mission-critical backend services supporting post-trade operations, clearing, settlement, and account lifecycle management.
Working within a modern microservices architecture, you will partner closely with business analysts, operations, and cross-functional engineering teams to build resilient, high-throughput systems that power the firm’s global brokerage platform.
Backend Engineer (Post-Trade Processing) – Leading Global Securities Firm
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain high-performance backend microservices and APIs using Java or Python.Develop core business logic and workflows for Middle Office and Back Office operations, including trade processing, clearing, settlement, cash transfers, reconciliation, and corporate actions.Build and manage high-volume batch processing, data pipelines, and scheduled jobs using workflow orchestration tools.Architect and integrate robust RESTful APIs and gRPC services across web, mobile, and third-party platforms.Maintain data integrity and optimize query performance across relational database engines (PostgreSQL / MySQL).Collaborate closely with Product, QA, DevOps, and business stakeholders in an Agile/Scrum delivery environment.Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code while participating actively in code reviews and architectural discussions.Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize production applications to ensure high availability, scalability, and security.
Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s degree or above in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline.Experience: 3 to 7 years of hands-on backend software engineering experience in production environments using Java or Python.Domain Knowledge: Proven background in securities brokerage, wealth management, trading systems, or post-trade / clearing / settlement financial systems.Architecture: Strong hands-on experience with microservices design patterns, distributed systems, and API design (REST / gRPC).Data & Batch: Solid experience with relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL), SQL optimization, and workflow orchestrators / job schedulers (e.g., Prefect, Luigi, Airflow).Engineering Standards: Solid understanding of data structures, OOP, clean code practices, Git version control, and CI/CD pipelines.Soft Skills: Strong analytical problem-solving skills, accountability, and effective team communication.
