💰 $160K–$180K + super
Want to build technology that thousands of students use every day?
We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join one of Australia’s fastest-growing education businesses, working on a modern platform at the centre of its next phase of growth.
This is a genuinely hands-on, full-stack role.
You’ll work closely with the Engineering Lead, own meaningful features end-to-end and help solve some of the harder technical challenges across both new and existing systems.
What you’ll be doing:
Building and shipping full-stack features end-to-end, roughly 50/50 front and back endWorking across both greenfield builds and an established production codebaseDesigning and developing APIs, services, interfaces and data layersBuilding and managing cloud infrastructure through IaCImproving CI/CD pipelines, testing and deployment practicesBreaking larger technical challenges into pragmatic, deployable incrementsReviewing code and helping maintain strong engineering standardsMaking sensible build-vs-buy and speed-vs-quality trade-offsWorking in a lean environment where engineers have genuine ownership and wear multiple hats
The core stack:
You don’t need experience with every technology, but we’re looking for strong capability across:
TypeScript & ReactAWSPostgreSQLInfrastructure as Code – SST or Pulumi preferredCI/CD & GitHub ActionsORMs – Prisma preferredVitest or JestPython for CI/CD scripting
Experience with Next.js, Supabase, Turborepo/monorepos, Go or Deno would be advantageous, but not essential.
No Go experience? That’s fine.
If you’re a strong engineer, it can be picked up on the job.
Your AWS experience
You don’t need AWS certifications.
What matters is practical experience working with core AWS services and understanding how cloud infrastructure fits together, ideally including:
IAM | VPC/Networking | ECS/Fargate | S3 | API Gateway | CloudWatch
Experience provisioning AWS environments from scratch through IaC would be particularly valuable.
What we're looking for:
You’re likely someone who:
Has 5+ years of software engineering experienceIs genuinely full stack, rather than heavily front-end focusedCan build from scratch but is equally comfortable improving an existing codebaseThinks pragmatically and avoids unnecessary technical complexityUnderstands good API boundaries, security and application architectureTakes ownership of what you build from development through to productionIs comfortable with on-call responsibilityCommunicates clearly, challenges ideas constructively and then commits to the agreed directionEnjoys the pace, ambiguity and ownership that comes with a startup/scale-up environment
Why join?
🚀 High impact: Build technology used by thousands of students across Australia.
🛠️ Real ownership: Stay close to the code and take meaningful features from idea through to production.
⚡ Modern engineering environment: Work across TypeScript, React, AWS, PostgreSQL, IaC and a broader modern cloud stack.
🧠 Autonomy: Work closely with an experienced Engineering Lead without layers of bureaucracy or micromanagement.
📈 Growth: Join a rapidly scaling organisation with significant investment in its technology platform.
🏡 Hybrid flexibility: Work flexibly with some time spent alongside the team in Melbourne CBD or Eastern suburbs.
If you’re an experienced engineer who likes building, shipping and solving real problems rather than over-engineering them, we’d love to hear from you.
