About The Role
In support of our Data Processing & Analytics Team, Airbus Defence and Space GmbH is seeking a Junior Backend Engineer (m/w/d) to join our dynamic technical workforce.
This role is pivotal in building, maintaining, and scaling the infrastructure and backend services that power our data analytics platform.
As a Junior Backend Engineer, you will work at the intersection of backend software development and modern platform operations, commonly known as DevOps.
You will collaborate closely with data engineers and analysts to ensure our analytics ecosystem remains high-performing, reliable, and observable.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a relevant academic background in Data Science, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or an equivalent technical discipline.
Proficiency in core programming languages such as Python, Go, Java, or Kotlin is essential, along with a foundational understanding of backend development.
Candidates should have experience or familiarity with DevOps tools and practices, including Ansible, GitLab-CI, Helm, Terraform, and container orchestration platforms like Kubernetes.
Knowledge of version control systems, particularly Git, and basic Unix/Linux command-line skills are required.
Soft skills such as strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, teamwork, and proactive learning are highly valued.
Certifications like CKA (Certified Kubernetes Administrator) or CKAD (Certified Kubernetes Application Developer) are advantageous but not mandatory.
Fluency in English and German is required, reflecting the international and multicultural environment of Airbus.
Responsibilities
Contribute to DevOps engineering efforts by developing and maintaining automation scripts and deployment pipelines using tools such as Ansible, GitLab-CI, and Helm.Assist in provisioning, configuring, and maintaining operational databases, including NoSQL solutions like MongoDB and time-series databases such as InfluxDB.Support platform operations by managing containerized deployments on Kubernetes (RKE) and deploying applications through Helm charts.Set up and maintain observability and monitoring dashboards using Prometheus and Grafana to ensure system uptime and health.Utilize Git for version control and collaborate within a team environment through code reviews and documentation of setup procedures.Automate routine system tasks using shell scripting (Bash) and troubleshoot infrastructure issues in collaboration with senior engineers.
