We are seeking a versatile and experienced Business Applications Developer (Power BI & Laravel) to join our team on a contract engagement, supporting one of our clients in the construction and engineering sector. This role offers the opportunity to take ownership of critical reporting and business application platforms, driving improvements across analytics, automation, and internal systems that support key business operations. Role Purpose The Business Applications Developer (Power BI & Laravel) is responsible for developing, maintaining, and enhancing both the organisation's Power BI reporting suite and internal Laravel-based intranet. The role combines business intelligence, application development, systems integration, and stakeholder engagement to deliver reliable, user-friendly solutions that improve decision-making, operational efficiency, and the overall employee experience. Responsibilities Develop, maintain, and enhance Power BI dashboards, including Practice Dashboards, Project Leader Dashboards, and other reporting solutions.Design, develop, and optimise data models, measures, and calculations using DAX and Power Query (M).Connect, transform, and integrate data from finance, project management, time-recording, and other business systems.Manage Power BI workspaces, dataset refresh schedules, permissions, and row-level security.Develop, maintain, and extend the organisation's Laravel-based intranet platform.Deliver new features, enhancements, and bug fixes across the intranet application.Maintain API integrations between business systems and internal applications.Support Microsoft 365 and Entra ID authentication and user management capabilities.Improve application and reporting performance, security, usability, and reliability.Troubleshoot data, reporting, system, and application issues.Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and prioritise development activities.Document applications, integrations, reporting assets, and support procedures to ensure ongoing maintainability. What your day-to-day will look like Supporting Practice Leadership and business stakeholders with reporting and analytics requirements.Developing new dashboards, KPIs, reports, and visualisations in Power BI.Enhancing and maintaining the intranet platform and associated integrations.Working through development backlogs and delivering new functionality.Investigating and resolving data quality, reporting, and application issues.Optimising database queries, application performance, and report efficiency.Managing security, access controls, and authentication integrations.Maintaining technical documentation and supporting knowledge transfer activities. Preferred Experience Demonstrated commercial experience developing solutions using Power BI and Laravel.Strong experience with DAX, Power Query (M), data modelling, and report design.Experience integrating and transforming data from multiple business applications and enterprise systems.Strong knowledge of Power BI Service, workspace management, refresh schedules, and row-level security.Commercial Laravel and PHP development experience, including Eloquent, migrations, queues, testing, and API development.Experience working with MySQL or MariaDB databases.Strong front-end development skills using Blade, JavaScript, and CSS frameworks.Experience with Git-based development workflows and source control practices.Knowledge of Microsoft 365 and Entra ID authentication and integrations.Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders. Preferred Qualifications Tertiary qualifications in Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Analytics, or a related discipline.Relevant Microsoft, Power BI, Laravel, PHP, or cloud platform certifications highly regarded.
