About the role
We’re looking for a Platform & Integration Engineer to build the technology foundation that connects our business.
We have a growing ecosystem of systems across workspace, health club, hospitality and future businesses.
Your job will be to make those systems work together.
Reliably, intelligently and in a way that gives us one accurate view of our members and our business.
You’ll design and build the integrations, APIs, data pipelines and internal tools that sit between our systems.
You’ll also help establish the foundations we can build on as the business grows: a canonical member identity, a normalised API layer that abstracts away our underlying vendors, and a data warehouse that The Commons genuinely owns.
This is a role with real ownership.
You’ll be the person who understands how our systems fit together, makes sure they continue to work, and builds the connections we need as we introduce new technology, new businesses and, increasingly, AI into the way we operate.
What you’ll be doing
Systems & integrations
Own the architecture and delivery of integrations across our core business systems.Build APIs, data pipelines and automations that move information accurately between systems.Be the go-to person when two systems need to talk to each other.Monitor, troubleshoot and continuously improve existing integrations.Work with third-party vendors to understand their systems, APIs and limitations.Data foundations
Help build and maintain a data warehouse that gives The Commons a reliable, independent source of truth.Develop a shared member identity across systems that don’t naturally share a common key.Design sensible approaches to ingesting, storing and modelling data — including raw source data and the messy edge cases that come with real-world systems.Use tools such as dbt to build tested, documented and maintainable data transformations.Help unlock our data through business intelligence and reporting tools.Make sure our data is structured, documented and trustworthy.Platform & future projects
Lead the technical delivery of platform projects, working closely with leadership and teams across the business.Translate business and member needs into practical technical solutions.Help evaluate and introduce new tools and technologies as the business evolves.Build the foundations for AI-assisted tools and services as they become part of how we work.Take ownership from architecture through to delivery, rather than simply handing requirements to someone else.
About you
You’re an engineer who enjoys solving problems where there isn’t a neat answer.
You’ve worked with multiple disparate systems and third-party vendors, and you know how to bring them together even when they weren’t designed to work together.
You’ve built integrations, data pipelines and APIs, and you’re comfortable owning the architecture as well as getting into the detail of implementation.
You have experience setting up data warehouses or data lakes, including ingesting and retaining raw source data before modelling it.
You’re comfortable with tools such as dbt, and understand the importance of testing, documentation and controlled transformations.
You’ve also dealt with identity resolution across systems that don’t share a common identifier, and understand what it takes to create a reliable single view of a customer or member.
Just as importantly, you’re comfortable operating in a business where things aren’t always perfectly defined.
You enjoy untangling messy, real-world data just as much as designing clean architecture.
You can talk APIs and data models with engineers, then turn around and explain a technical problem clearly to a room full of non-technical stakeholders.
You’re proactive, pragmatic and curious.
You spot problems before they become urgent, enjoy variety, and would rather ship something useful in stages than wait for the perfect plan.
What we're looking for
Proven experience integrating complex, disparate systems and third-party platforms.Strong experience building APIs, integrations and data pipelines.Experience designing or maintaining a data warehouse or data lake.Practical experience with data transformation and modelling tools such as dbt.Experience with identity resolution or building a shared customer/member identity across systems.Strong understanding of data architecture, APIs and system integration patterns.A pragmatic approach to engineering — you know when to build, when to simplify and when to improve.Excellent communication skills and the confidence to work with stakeholders across the business.A genuine interest in emerging technology and the potential of AI to improve how businesses operate.
