A Day in Your Life at MKS As a Senior Software Engineer (PLC Developper) within the VCS Automation Team, you will play a key role in designing, developing, and maintaining PLC control logic for advanced automation projects. You will contribute to the delivery of reliable and efficient automation solutions, working closely with engineering, development, and commissioning teams to ensure seamless integration across systems. In this role, you will report to the Lead of VCS Automation. You Will Make an Impact By: Developing and maintaining PLC control logic using JScript and IEC 61131-3 programming languages (Structured Text and Sequential Function Chart) to support industrial automation projects. Designing automation solutions that meet customer requirements while ensuring reliability, performance, and safety. Integrating PLC systems with industrial equipment and business applications, including communication through industrial networks and protocols. Configuring and supporting industrial communication technologies such as EtherCAT, CANBus, PROFIBUS, and OPC UA. Testing, troubleshooting, and optimizing automation systems to ensure efficient operation and rapid resolution of technical issues. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including software developers, commissioning engineers, and project stakeholders, to deliver successful customer projects. Providing technical support to customers by diagnosing and resolving automation system issues in a timely and effective manner. Driving high standards of software quality through documentation, code reviews, and adherence to development best practices. Mentoring and supporting junior engineers by sharing technical expertise and promoting continuous learning across the team. Skills You Bring Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. 5+ years of experience developing software for PLC-based automation systems. Strong experience with JScript or similar scripting languages. Hands-on experience with IEC 61131-3 programming languages, particularly Structured Text (ST) and Sequential Function Chart (SFC). Knowledge of industrial communication networks and protocols, including EtherCAT, CANBus, PROFIBUS, and OPC UA. Experience troubleshooting and optimizing PLC-based automation systems. Understanding of industrial automation and SCADA environments. Ability to work independently while effectively collaborating within cross-functional teams. Strong problem-solving, communication, and customer-focused mindset. Fluent English communication skills, both written and spoken. Nice to Have Experience with a variety of PLC platforms and development tools. Knowledge of Python or other scripting languages. Experience with version control systems such as Git.
