Java Software Engineer

Due to the secure nature of this programme, candidates must be sole UK Nationals who are eligible for UK Security Clearance or already hold this clearance. This position will require 5 days a week working out of the CGI Leatherhead office. Your future duties and responsibilities In this role, you will take ownership of designing, developing and testing Java services that interrogate and manipulate data sources, turning complex information into reliable services for front-end applications. You’ll develop RESTful APIs and contribute throughout the software delivery lifecycle, applying automated testing to ensure solutions are robust, secure and maintainable. Working within a collaborative SAFe Agile delivery environment, you’ll contribute across three-week sprints, respond pragmatically to changing requirements and use your creativity to solve new technical challenges. You’ll be supported by colleagues with varied expertise while having the opportunity to share your own ideas, improve delivery practices and expand your technical capabilities. Depending on programme requirements, you may also help support production releases and respond to technical queries from the On Site Support Team. Develop & Deliver – Build robust Java services and RESTful APIs that interrogate, manipulate and correlate data. Test & Assure – Develop automated unit and integration tests to maintain high standards of software quality. Own & Improve – Take responsibility for your solutions from development through testing and delivery, identifying opportunities for continuous improvement. Collaborate & Adapt – Work closely with Agile colleagues to respond effectively to changing requirements and priorities. Integrate & Optimise – Work with databases, APIs and supporting technologies to create reliable end-to-end solutions. Support & Resolve – Contribute to production support, release packages and technical problem-solving where required. Learn & Contribute – Share ideas and expertise while developing your skills through collaboration with CGI colleagues. Required Qualifications To Be Successful In This Role You should be an experienced Java Developer with strong hands-on experience developing and automatically testing Java services, including recent experience creating RESTful APIs. You’ll combine technical capability with clear communication, collaborative working and a pragmatic, delivery-focused approach. You should be comfortable adapting as requirements evolve and motivated to learn new technologies and approaches. Essential Strong experience developing and automatically testing Java services. Recent hands-on experience developing RESTful APIs. Proven ability to deliver high-quality software within an Agile development environment. Strong team-working and communication skills. A pragmatic, adaptable and delivery-focused approach to changing requirements. Sole UK National status and existing SC Clearance. Ability to work from CGI’s Leatherhead office five days per week. Desirable Experience developing front-end applications using React and testing frameworks such as Jest. Experience with JUnit and integration testing tools such as ReadyAPI. Strong working knowledge of Git. Experience developing RESTful APIs using OpenAPI and JSON. SQL and PL/SQL experience, including scripts that interrogate Oracle databases. Experience with CI/CD platforms such as GitLab Runner or Jenkins. Knowledge of Linux. Experience with Selenium for front-end integration testing. Understanding of SOAP services and/or legacy Oracle SOA composites. Experience supporting production environments and creating release packages.
