Senior Backend Engineer (Security & Fleet Platform) Location: Alameda, CA Job Type: Full-time Salary: $170K–$240K + Competitive Equity Work Arrangement: On-site Experience: 5+ years Visa Sponsorship: Not available Relocation Assistance: Available Openings: 1 About the Role We’re looking for a Senior Backend Engineer with 5+ years of experience building and shipping production systems, with strong expertise in backend engineering, security, cryptography, and cloud infrastructure. You’ll take end-to-end ownership of a secure fleet and financing platform, building the backend and supporting infrastructure from the ground up. This is a high-ownership role for an engineer who is comfortable making architecture decisions, shipping production systems, and working closely with hardware and embedded teams. Experience with IoT, telematics, fleet management, or hardware-to-cloud systems is a strong plus. What You’ll Do - Architect, develop, and maintain a secure fleet and financing management platform from the ground up. - Design and implement authentication, authorization, encryption, and other security mechanisms. - Build scalable backend APIs and services for web, mobile, administrative, and merchant systems. - Collaborate with embedded and electrical engineering teams to integrate backend services with physical vehicle hardware. - Design and operate cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and deployment processes. - Make key architecture, framework, technology, and long-term platform decisions. - Establish best practices for code quality, testing, logging, monitoring, and observability. - Build real-time communication systems involving IoT devices and cloud services. - Own backend development and infrastructure in a high-autonomy environment. Required Qualifications - 5+ years of experience building and shipping production backend systems. - Experience building backend systems from 0 to 1. - Strong experience with security-critical systems, fintech infrastructure, or similar environments. - Proven experience designing and shipping APIs for web and mobile applications. - Expert-level proficiency in Go or TypeScript, or strong experience with a comparable backend language. - Strong understanding of authentication, encryption, and applied cryptography. - Experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure. - Experience with containers and CI/CD. - Strong understanding of data modeling and database design, including relational and/or NoSQL databases. - Experience with MQTT, WebSockets, or other real-time communication technologies. - Experience with hardware identity, key provisioning, secure device onboarding, or related security systems. - Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience. - Ability to work full-time on-site in Alameda, CA. Preferred Qualifications - Experience with IoT, telematics, fleet management, or connected devices. - Experience integrating hardware with cloud/backend systems. - Fleet or mobility technology experience. - Experience with real-time data pipelines. - Experience with secure device provisioning and hardware identity. - Early-stage startup or high-ownership engineering experience. - Strong interest in EVs, motorcycles, mobility, or emerging markets.
