Senior Backend Engineer

Job#: 3045516 Job Description: Sr. Backend Engineer (Contract) Role Overview: Meta is seeking a Backend Engineer to build and maintain scalable infrastructure, APIs, and services supporting products used at global scale. This role requires strong distributed systems expertise, a data-driven mindset, and the ability to collaborate across engineering organizations. Responsibilities Design and implement highly available backend services and APIs.Develop scalable distributed systems to process large volumes of data.Build integrations across internal and external systems.Improve application reliability, scalability, monitoring, and observability.Create solutions for asynchronous job processing and workflow orchestration.Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define technical requirements.Develop automated testing and deployment solutions.Participate in architecture reviews and operational excellence initiatives.Debug complex production issues and implement long-term fixes. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.5+ years of backend software development experience.Strong experience with Python, Hack/PHP, Java, Go, or similar languages.Experience with GraphQL, REST services, and API development.Strong SQL and database optimization skills.Experience designing scalable distributed systems.Experience with asynchronous processing and workflow execution frameworks.Proficiency with testing, debugging, and performance optimization. Preferred Qualifications Experience with large-scale infrastructure environments.Knowledge of data pipelines and event-driven architectures.Experience building systems that support machine learning or analytics workloads.Prior experience in high-growth technology environments.
