Java Backend developer - Java 17, DevSecOps, Kubernetes
Location: Montreal; Hybrid: 3 days a week in office

We are seeking a Software Engineer to join a Global Enterprise Technology Team responsible for the development, modernization, security and operational reliability of mission critical information distribution system and file transfer platforms.
Candidate will play a key role in improving the security posture, resilience, and overall health of our platforms.
This includes supporting vulnerabilities remediation, reducing technical debts, modernizing legacy applications, and improving reliability through automation, observability and engineering best practices.
Required Skills:
Programming and Software Engineering
• Strong programming skills in Java; Java 17 or later is preferred
• Experience with Python and/or JavaScript
• Hands-on experience with Spring Boot and REST API development
• Solid understanding of object-oriented design and software engineering principles
Security & Platform Reliability
• Understanding of secure software development practices and common application security risks
• Familiarity with vulnerability management, dependency upgrades, and remediation activities
• Knowledge of secure coding principles
• Understanding of high availability, resiliency and fault tolerant system design concepts
Infrastructure & Systems
• Good working knowledge of Linux/Unix systems and shell scripting
• Familiarity with networking protocols such as HTTPS, SSH/SFTP, SMTP, TLS and TCP/IP
• Experience working with relational databases such as Postgre/SQL, Oracle or SQL Server
Modern Engineering Practices:
• Experience with Git-based development workflows
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automation testing

Responsibilities:
Security and Platform Hygiene:
• Support remediation of application and infrastructure vulnerabilities identified in security scanning, penetration testing and risk assessments
• Upgrade and maintain application frameworks, third party libraries, and platform components to support and secure versions
• Reduce technical debt and improve application maintainability, stability, and security
• Partner with cyber infrastructure teams to address security findings and implement remediation plans
• Contribute to secure software development practices and security by design principles
Resilience & Reliability Engineering:
• Improve platform reliability, resiliency and recoverability through system enhancements and automation
• Participate in root cause analysis and remediation of production incidents with a focus on preventing recurring issues
• Develop and improve monitoring, alerting and observability capabilities to strengthen system health and operational visibility
• Identify and address single point of failure, performance bottleneck and operational risks
• Support disaster recovery, business continuity and platform hardening initiatives
Application Development & Modernization:
• Design, Develop and support enterprise applications, APIs and platform services
• Modernize legacy systems through adoption of contemporary frameworks, architectures, and engineering practices
• Develop integrations between internal systems and enterprise platforms
• Contribute to POC initiatives and evaluation of emerging technologies
DevOps & Automation:
• Build and enhance CI/CD pipelines to improve software quality and delivery efficiency
• Automate testing, deployment, compliance, and operational processes
