Job Title: Staff Software Engineer Location: Hybrid - Mountain View, California, United States Salary: $210,000-$250,000 About the Software Development Company / The Opportunity: Join an innovative software development organization building secure, scalable, cloud-native platforms that support high-impact products and mission-critical workflows. This opportunity places you at the center of foundational engineering initiatives spanning authentication, authorization, distributed systems, infrastructure, and developer productivity. As a Staff Software Engineer, you will influence technical direction across multiple teams while remaining deeply involved in architecture, implementation, migration, and production operations. Responsibilities: Own the architecture and development of identity, access, and security-focused systems.Design and improve secure authentication and authorization workflows.Build shared services, frameworks, and tools that improve engineering consistency and efficiency.Identify and resolve performance, scalability, and reliability issues across distributed systems.Improve developer workflows, testing, deployment, and production operations.Establish strong standards for monitoring, logging, alerting, and system reliability.Partner with product, infrastructure, and security teams to protect sensitive data and meet compliance requirements.Lead complex technical initiatives from architecture through implementation and production.Make pragmatic technical decisions balancing security, reliability, scalability, and delivery speed.Mentor senior engineers and provide technical direction through design reviews and architecture discussions. Must-Have Skills: 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including building and supporting complex systems in production environments.Strong background in identity and access management, with experience designing authentication and authorization solutions for modern applications.Deep experience developing backend services and distributed systems, including APIs, databases, cloud platforms, and asynchronous workloads.Strong understanding of application security and system design, with the ability to balance security, reliability, scalability, performance, and development speed.Proven experience leading complex technical projects that span multiple teams, from architecture and design through implementation, deployment, and ongoing operations.Experience working with cloud infrastructure, containerized environments, deployment automation, monitoring, and systems designed for high availability.Ability to provide technical direction through architecture discussions, code reviews, mentorship, documentation, and development of reusable engineering solutions.Strong sense of ownership and curiosity, with the ability to move between strategic architecture and hands-on development while remaining accountable for results. Nice-to-Have Skills: Experience developing shared identity, authentication, or access management systems used across multiple applications or teams.Experience with modern cloud, backend, and infrastructure technologies such as AWS, Python, Go, PostgreSQL, Kubernetes, or similar platforms.Previous experience mentoring engineers or helping improve engineering practices and team capabilities.Familiarity with security, privacy, and compliance requirements within regulated industries, particularly healthcare.
