Software Engineer

This fast-growing stealth defense technology startup is building an AI-native platform designed to automate complex operational and administrative workflows for mission-critical military organizations. By combining organizational data, knowledge graphs, LLM-powered agents, and workflow automation, the company is helping users replace highly manual processes with intelligent, scalable systems. Backed by $2.5M+ in pre-seed funding from leading enterprise software and defense-tech investors, the company is already deployed with multiple Department of Defense customers and has approximately $270K in ARR, with significant growth expected as additional contracts launch. The team was also recently selected for a 7-figure Air Force R&D contract. This is an opportunity to join a small founding team at a key inflection point, take meaningful ownership of the product, and help shape both the technology and engineering culture as the company scales. Responsibilities Own end-to-end full-stack development of the core platformBuild customer-facing features, knowledge graphs, AI agent workflows, and internal platform capabilitiesDevelop across the frontend and backend, primarily using TypeScriptTranslate customer and operational needs directly into production-ready featuresSupport customer launches and rapidly iterate based on real-world feedbackBuild tools that allow customers to configure and manage their own AI agents and workflowsIntegrate LLMs and AI orchestration systems into production applicationsDevelop and maintain scalable APIs, databases, and cloud infrastructureCollaborate directly with founders and engineers on product direction, technical architecture, and feature prioritizationParticipate in occasional customer visits to military installations to better understand users and operational workflows Qualifications 3–5 years of professional full-stack software engineering experienceExperience shipping production software end-to-end in a fast-paced startup or similarly high-ownership environmentEarly-stage startup experience, ideally Seed or Series AStrong full-stack engineering foundation across frontend, backend, databases, and infrastructureExperience with TypeScript, Python, Next.js, Express, PostgreSQL, or similar technologiesExperience deploying and operating applications on AWS or another major cloud providerExperience integrating LLMs, AI agents, or AI-powered workflows into production applications is a plusTechnical degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, or a related field preferredStrong product mindset with the ability to translate customer problems into scalable technical solutionsComfortable working directly with customers and incorporating feedback into product developmentCollaborative, low-ego approach with strong communication and problem-solving skillsComfortable working in a fast-moving, ambiguous startup environment with significant ownershipU.S. citizenship required due to security clearance eligibility requirementsAble to work in person 5 days per week in downtown San FranciscoOpen to occasional travel, approximately once per monthMilitary or defense-tech experience is a plus Benefits Competitive salary of $160K–$210K0.5%–1.5% equityEquity currently priced at pre-seed levels ahead of an anticipated Seed roundBacked by $2.5M+ in pre-seed fundingOpportunity to join a small founding team with significant ownership and autonomyWork directly with founders and early engineering team membersShape the technical architecture, product direction, and engineering cultureBuild technology used in real-world, mission-critical environmentsDirect exposure to customers and the problems you're solvingOpportunity for meaningful career growth as the company scalesRelocation support may be available for candidates moving to San Francisco
