Senior DevOps Engineer

Senior Search DevOps Engineer UK-based, Remote About the Role We are looking for a capable, detail-oriented Senior Search DevOps Engineer to help us build, automate, and operate our in-house search platform. You'll bring hands-on Python skills and experience with search technologies like Elastic, and you'll take on leadership of a small team of Search DevOps Engineers working alongside you on the same project. This role sits at the intersection of engineering delivery and client collaboration — you'll work closely with internal development, product, and operations teams, and directly with external clients to understand requirements, support integrations, and resolve operational issues. We're growing and evolving, and this role will touch a range of current and future projects. What You'll Do Manage and support a small team of Search DevOps EngineersDesign, implement, and maintain an in-house search platform built on ElasticDevelop and maintain Python-based automation for infrastructure management, deployments, and operational workflows, with security built in from the startWrite high-quality, test-driven codeIntegrate with APIs for document management and storage platforms, including Salesforce and Google DriveDesign and support secure, appropriately restricted document automation workflows using Python and third-party platformsOperate, monitor, and optimise cloud environments, primarily on Google Cloud PlatformWork directly with clients to understand technical requirements, support integrations, and resolve operational issuesCollaborate closely with internal development, product, and operations teams to deliver robust, scalable solutionsProduce and maintain clear technical documentation, operational runbooks, audit and operational logging, and process guidance Required: At least 24 months of demonstrable, hands-on Python experience in a commercial or production environment, including at least 12 months leading a small development teamPractical experience with an object-oriented language such as Kotlin, Java, C#, or C++Practical experience building and maintaining web applications, with knowledge of HTML, JavaScript, and Node.jsStrong understanding of DevOps practices — automation, testing, continuous integration, and continuous deliveryPractical experience working with RESTful APIs and integrating external systemsExperience working in a collaborative team environment with modern AI code assistance toolsHands-on experience operating workloads on Google Cloud Platform and other cloud environmentsSolid working knowledge of Git and collaborative development workflowsProven ability to thrive in a remote-first environment, engaging with both internal colleagues and external clients Desirable: Experience integrating and indexing document management/storage platforms (e.g. Google Drive, Salesforce) with a search platform such as ElasticExperience implementing document automation solutions in PythonExposure to additional cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure, AWS, or Oracle Cloud InfrastructureFamiliarity with infrastructure-as-code, containerisation, or configuration management toolingExperience with Visual Studio Code or similar IDEs Who You Are Professional, structured, and methodical in your approachComfortable engaging directly with clients and representing the technical teamStrong analytical and problem-solving skills, with sharp attention to detailA clear communicator who can translate technical concepts for a range of stakeholdersAble to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a distributed teamCurious and proactive, with a genuine interest in learning new technologies and growing your technical capabilities
