The Role Nasdaq is seeking a Principal Platform Engineer to develop, operate, and evolve the infrastructure and engineering platforms that support critical trading systems. In this role, you will partner with Developers, Application Management, Information Security, and infrastructure engineering teams to deliver secure, scalable, reliable, and high-performing platform solutions. You will be encouraged to lead technical direction, establish standards, drive automation, and serve as a senior escalation point for difficult systems, network, and application performance issues. You're comfortable tackling sophisticated operational problems in high-performance, low-latency environments while driving continuous improvement across critical engineering platforms. Key Responsibilities Lead the engineering, automation, and operational management of core platform technologies, including GitLab, Teleport, Linux-based infrastructure, Kubernetes, and cloud services supporting critical trading systems. Design, build, and maintain secure, scalable hybrid infrastructure across AWS and on-premises environments using Infrastructure as Code and automation practices. Develop and enhance platform automation using Terraform, shell scripting, and related tooling to improve reliability, consistency, and operational efficiency. Manage platform lifecycle activities including provisioning, configuration management, operating system maintenance, access controls, and platform upgrades. Troubleshoot and resolve complex infrastructure, platform, and performance issues across Linux systems, networking, cloud services, Kubernetes, and distributed environments. Partner with Development, Application Management, Infrastructure, and Information Security teams to improve platform reliability, secure access, deployment workflows, and operational readiness. Drive platform engineering standards, documentation, incident response practices, and continuous improvement initiatives while mentoring other engineers. Required Qualifications 10+ years of experience in Platform Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering, DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), or related fields. Advanced Linux engineering and troubleshooting experience, including operating systems, networking, performance analysis, and infrastructure management. Hands-on experience supporting AWS and hybrid infrastructure environments, including services such as EC2, S3, and Lambda. Strong experience with Kubernetes, containerized platforms, and modern infrastructure operations. Experience developing automation using Shell scripting and Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform. Hands-on experience with Git-based source control platforms and CI/CD workflows, including the ability to manage repositories, platform administration, and developer enablement. Experience operating enterprise infrastructure and platform services, including access management, configuration management, monitoring, and system reliability. Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose issues across infrastructure, networking, platform services, and distributed applications. Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with experience working across engineering, security, and application teams. Preferred Qualifications Experience administering or supporting GitLab, Teleport, Sonatype Nexus, or similar developer and secure-access platforms. Experience with financial services, trading platforms, or other highly available and performance-sensitive environments. Experience with observability, monitoring, logging, and incident management practices. Experience leading major incident response efforts, conducting post-incident reviews, and driving reliability improvements. Track record of mentoring engineers and influencing technical standards and platform strategy. This position will be located in New York or Philadelphia and offers the opportunity for a hybrid work environment at least 3 days a week in-office, subject to change, providing flexibility and accessibility for qualified candidates. The base pay range for this role is $155,000 - $287,000. In addition to base salary, Nasdaq provides a generous annual bonus/commission (short-term incentive), and equity (long-term incentive), comprehensive benefits, and opportunity for growth.
