UNIX Engineer Location: Glasgow (preferred) or Newcastle | Hybrid We’re looking for a highly technical UNIX Engineer to join a core Infrastructure Engineering team supporting a large-scale enterprise environment within the financial services sector.# Key Responsibilities: Develop and enhance automation for large-scale Linux patching, OS upgrades, and infrastructure maintenance.Build orchestration components using Python, Ansible, and Apache Airflow.Create robust pre-checks, post-change validations, and automation workflows to improve reliability and deployment speed.Integrate monitoring and observability using Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, and related tooling.Support automation across Linux platforms, with exposure to load balancers and virtualisation technologies.Work closely with engineering teams to improve infrastructure resilience and operational efficiency.Essential Skills: Strong Linux/UNIX administration experience.Proficiency in Python and Ansible.Experience with automation and orchestration tools (Apache Airflow desirable).Solid understanding of networking fundamentals, protocols, filesystems, and low-level UNIX concepts.Comfortable working at the command line and troubleshooting complex infrastructure.Experience with monitoring/observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or Loki is advantageous.Financial services experience is beneficial but not essential.Additional Information: Glasgow is the preferred location, with some travel to the London client site during onboarding (travel covered where applicable).
