Senior Backend Engineer - Java

Overview: We are looking for a Senior Java Developer to design and build scalable back-end solutions using Java and Spring Boot. You will work on REST APIs and microservices, contribute to architecture and technical decisions, and help drive engineering best practices within an international Agile team. What will you do? Design, develop and maintain robust and scalable back-end services using Java and Spring Boot.Design and implement REST APIs and microservices, considering performance, security, maintainability, and resilience.Contribute to technical design and architecture decisions within thesquad.Write clean, maintainable and well-tested code following engineering best practices.Maintain high standards for code reviews, automated testing and code quality.Support CI/CD and deployment processes, working closely with DevOps and other engineering roles.Troubleshoot complex technical and production issues and contribute to root-cause analysis.Coach and mentor other developers, sharing knowledge and improving engineering practices within the team.Promote practices such as pair programming, peer reviews and continuous improvement.Communicate technical decisions clearly and be comfortable questioning and challenging existing solutions and ways of working.Collaborate effectively within a geographically distributed squad across Portugal and the Netherlands. What are we looking for? Strong knowledge of Java and Spring Boot.Solid experience designing and developing REST APIs and microservices.Good understanding of software architecture, design patterns and clean-code principles.Strong experience with automated testing, including unit and integration testing.Experience with Git and CI/CD pipelines.Experience with public cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS or GCP is an advantage.Good understanding of application security and secure development practices.Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.Experience working in Agile / Continuous Delivery environments.Seniority & Soft SkillsProactive and comfortable taking ownership of technical topics.Able to explain technical decisions and trade-offs clearly to both technical and non-technical colleagues.Comfortable giving and receiving constructive feedback.Willing to challenge solutions when needed and propose better alternatives.Strong collaboration and communication skills in an international environment.Professional working proficiency in English.
