For more information, visit: www.aiu.edu.kw Job Summary The Application Developer is responsible for developing, enhancing, and supporting custom and enterprise applications at the American International University (AIU). This role focuses on building reliable, secure, and user-friendly software solutions that support academic operations, administrative processes, and student services. The Application Developer works with senior Application Developer and project managers to translate requirements into effective application solutions. Role Impact This role supports AIU’s academic and operational objectives by delivering stable, well-functioning applications that improve efficiency, usability, and system reliability. Key Responsibilities Application Development & Support Develop, test, and maintain applications according to defined requirements and standards.Support enhancements and bug fixes for existing systems.Follow secure coding practices and development guidelines. Systems Integration & Enhancement Assist in integrating applications with enterprise systems such as SIS, LMS, CRM, and analytics platforms.Participate in application enhancements, automation, and optimization initiatives.Ensure solutions align with approved technical and architectural standards. Collaboration & Requirements Support Work with stakeholders and project teams to understand functional requirements.Support the translation of business needs into technical tasks and solutions.Participate in testing, user acceptance, and deployment activities. Issue Resolution & Maintenance Troubleshoot application issues and support production incidents as needed.Assist in root cause analysis and resolution of system defects.Support post-deployment stabilization and maintenance activities. Documentation & Compliance Maintain technical documentation, including design specifications and deployment procedures.Ensure applications comply with security, data protection, and institutional policies.Support audits, reviews, and compliance activities as required. Key Competencies Application development and problem-solving skillsUnderstanding of databases, APIs, and web technologiesAbility to follow standards and develop best practicesStrong teamwork and communication skillsWillingness to learn and adapt to new technologies Additional Responsibilities Developing and enhancing Dashboard (Power Bi or Tableau) As part of this role, the candidate will assist in developing, enhancing, and maintaining dashboards using Power BI or Tableau. Previous experience with Power BI or Tableau would be an advantage but is not mandatory. Training and guidance will be provided when required. However, the candidate must demonstrate a willingness and proactive attitude toward learning data-visualization tools and supporting institutional reporting requirements. Long-term Development Responsibilities As AIU continues to grow, members of the IT team may be required to support different technology initiatives based on institutional priorities. Technology is continuously evolving, particularly in the area of artificial intelligence. Therefore, a willingness and aptitude to learn independently, develop new skills, and take on new responsibilities are essential for this position. Over time, and with the support and guidance of the Senior Application Developer, the candidate may assist with: Developing mobile versions of existing PHP web applications using the same backend systems, databases, and APIs.Integrating artificial intelligence capabilities into existing web and mobile applications.Supporting privately hosted AI models and local large language model solutions while maintaining institutional data privacy and controlling operational costs. Previous experience in mobile development or artificial intelligence would be an advantage but is not mandatory. These responsibilities will be introduced gradually based on institutional requirements, the candidate’s learning progress, and available training and guidance. Educational Qualification and Certifications Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field.Expertise in PHP, Laravel, SQL/MySQL, AWS, and GitHub version control.Relevant certifications in PHP, Laravel, cloud platforms (AWS), or web application development are preferred.
