Senior Software Engineer

About the Role This opportunity is for a Senior Software Engineer who will help build and scale a student financial engagement platform used by universities and their students. The role combines hands-on backend and frontend development with ownership of meaningful product areas from initial design through production deployment and ongoing support. You will work closely with Product, Design, Customer Experience, Integrations, and Engineering teams to deliver reliable, scalable customer-facing software. The position requires strong technical judgment, high standards for software quality, and the ability to make decisions that support both current product needs and long-term platform growth. AI-assisted development is a core part of the engineering workflow. Tools such as Cursor, Claude, Codex, and similar technologies are used regularly to help build and ship software. Experience developing products in ways that allow AI tooling to understand context and collaborate effectively is highly relevant to this role. What You’ll Do Lead end-to-end development of product features from initial design through implementation, deployment, and ongoing production supportArchitect and build scalable backend services and APIs using TypeScript and Node.jsContribute to modern frontend application development, with React preferredDesign systems with reliability, observability, scalability, and long-term maintainability in mindCollaborate cross-functionally with Product, Design, Customer Experience, and Integrations teams to deliver customer-facing functionalityParticipate in code reviews and maintain high standards for code quality and system designImprove engineering processes, internal tooling, and technical documentation as the platform scalesHelp shape technical decisions and contribute to the continued development of engineering cultureUse AI-assisted development tools as a regular part of the software engineering workflow Qualifications 5+ years of professional software engineering experienceExperience building and operating production systems at scaleStrong backend development experience, preferably with TypeScript and Node.jsExperience building modern frontend applications, preferably with ReactExperience working with relational databases and writing performant SQL queriesFamiliarity with cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS, and modern deployment practicesStrong understanding of monitoring, logging, and observability best practicesHigh-agency, high-urgency approach to solving problems and delivering resultsAbility to own technical problems from initial definition through completionAbility to make consequential technical decisions that directly affect product and engineering outcomesProven ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with Product, Design, Engineering, and non-technical stakeholders Preferred Qualifications Experience working at an early-stage startupExperience in fintech or another regulated industryFamiliarity with payment systems or financial infrastructureExperience designing or integrating systems with external partners or APIsExperience using AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor, Claude, Codex, or similar technologies as part of a regular engineering workflow Travel Attendance at one to two in-person company onsite gatherings per year is required Pay: $148,750 - $215,000 per year Benefits Competitive salaryCompetitive equity package401(k) retirement savings planSubsidized medical, dental, and vision insuranceHSA and FSA plan optionsFlexible paid time offPaid company holidaysPaid parental leaveOne to two company onsite gatherings per year
