Description
Engineering Manager – Python, Django, AWS – Munich or Remote (Germany) €120k
Ready to lead a senior engineering team behind a returns platform processing 80 million transactions a year?
My client is a leading player in the e-commerce post-purchase space, powering delivery, tracking and returns experiences for enterprise brands like H&M and IKEA — processing over a billion outbound shipments and 80 million returns annually.
You'll lead the "Returns v2" team: five senior engineers (8+ years' experience) building a modern, Shopify-integrated returns platform on Python, Django and AWS-native queuing.
The frontend runs on themeable HTML templates rather than React, giving retailers deep customisation.
Infrastructure runs on Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes, Datadog and Sentry, with PostgreSQL handling billions of records, and the team is actively weaving AI into both the product and its own workflows.
This platform is my client's primary growth driver, and you'll have real autonomy to shape what comes next.
This isn't a pure people-management role.
Expect a mix: roughly 25% people leadership, 35% product and stakeholder management, and 40% hands-on technical contribution — architecture calls, code, and the judgment to balance delivery speed, reliability and technical debt.
What you bring:
8+ years in software engineering with strong Python and Django skills3+ years in technical leadership or engineering managementExperience with distributed, high-volume systems (think databases with billions of records) in a product-driven SaaS/B2B environmentComfortable with AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, and TerraformAn ownership mentality — you want to build great products, not just administrate a backlog
E-commerce, logistics, or Shopify experience is a strong plus, as is a track record of leading remote teams.
Based in Munich or remote within Germany.
Salary up to €120k per year, reflecting the seniority and impact of this role.
