About The Role In order to support our Data Processing & Analytics Team as a Backend and DevOps Engineer, Airbus Defence and Space GmbH is seeking a dedicated Junior Backend Engineer. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development, maintenance, and scaling of our data analytics platform's infrastructure and backend services. You will operate at the intersection of backend software development and modern platform operations, commonly known as DevOps. Collaborating closely with data engineers and analysts, you will help ensure our analytics ecosystem remains high-performing, reliable, and observable. The ideal candidate enjoys automating deployment processes, managing modern data stores in containerized environments, and is eager to grow their skills in a dynamic and innovative setting. Qualifications The ideal candidate will possess a relevant academic background in Data Science, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline. Technical competencies include foundational programming skills in languages such as Python, Go, Java, or Kotlin, which are integral to our ecosystem. Knowledge of DevOps tools like Ansible, Terraform, Gitlab-CI, Helm, OCI, and ArgoCD is highly desirable. Proficiency with Git for version control, as well as basic Unix/Linux command-line skills and shell scripting, are essential. Candidates should demonstrate a problem-solving mindset, eagerness to learn modern infrastructure practices, and the ability to systematically debug issues across backend systems and data pipelines. Soft skills such as analytical thinking, collaboration within multicultural teams, and proactive learning attitude are equally important. Nice-to-have qualifications include certifications like CKA or CKAD, and professional fluency in English and German. Responsibilities Your tasks and responsibilities will include contributing to DevOps engineering efforts by developing and maintaining automation scripts and infrastructure using tools such as Ansible, Gitlab-CI, and Helm. You will assist in provisioning, configuring, and maintaining operational databases, particularly MongoDB and InfluxDB, to support our data analytics needs. Managing containerized deployments on Kubernetes (RKE) and deploying applications via Helm charts will be part of your daily activities. Ensuring platform uptime and health through setting up and maintaining monitoring dashboards with Prometheus and Grafana is critical. You will also utilize Git for version control and write basic shell scripts to automate routine system tasks. Collaboration with senior engineers for troubleshooting, documenting setup procedures, and participating in code reviews will be vital to your success in this role.
