Senior Backend Engineer

As our product and user base grow, the reliability, performance, and scalability of our backend systems become even more critical. We’re looking for a Backend Engineer who is ready to own complex systems, lead architecture decisions, mentor others, and drive lasting technical impact across our app and services. What You’ll Own Backend Architecture & Development: Develop, design and maintain robust backend systems (monolithic and microservices), including API development and third-party integrations.Performance Optimization: Benchmark, refactor, and proactively improve performance and reliability of core backend services, caching layers, and data stores.Technical Leadership: Make sound technical decisions, review code at a high standard, guide architectural direction, and elevate team-wide engineering practices.Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with PMs, QA, Infra/DevOps, and stakeholders to align technical solutions with business outcomes. And also supporting business operations.Mentorship & Team Growth: Actively coach junior and mid-level engineers, participate in hiring and interviews, and foster a culture of quality, speed, and ownership. What Success Looks Like (6–12 Months) Owns high-impact backend systems, ensuring they’re reliable, scalable, and well-documentedMakes key architectural decisions that reduce tech debt and support product velocityCoaches junior/mid engineers to greater independence and technical judgmentLeads the successful delivery of features and infrastructure projects, including planning, estimation, and stakeholder communicationSupports incident response and actively improves system observability and monitoringParticipates in hiring by contributing to interviews, onboarding, and engineering culture-building Requirements You’re a Fit If You… Have 5+ years of backend engineering experience, ideally in fast-paced product environmentsHave hands-on experience with building and maintaining microservices architectures, performance tuning, and implementing monitoring and observability in production environmentsFluent in PHP (Laravel), NodeJS, and Golang, and experienced with MySQLUnderstand caching systems (Redis, Memcached), search (ElasticSearch), and event-driven architecture (Kafka, RabbitMQ)Are familiar with API Gateway, CI/CD, TDD, Docker, Git Flow, and Linux developmentKnow how to analyze logs, debug production issues, and make smart trade-offs under pressureCan balance engineering best practices with pragmatic decision-making when trade-offs are necessaryCommunicate clearly across teams, give and receive feedback well, and take initiative without waiting to be toldOpen to feedback, and know when to listen, when to challenge, and when to stand firmCare about building systems that are both technically sound and solve real user problemsExperienced in integrating with 3rd party systems or vendors
